How many people here have other pets and animals? And how do they interact (if at all) with your parrots?
I have two pomerainians and they must think that they are birds, or at least they are confused about what we all are. They are very respectful of birds. In fact my sweet cockatiel Zaphod used to chase my dog Max off me and the couch with his wings held out and beak wide open. My little girl dog (Schmoo) is shyer than Max and lives in awe of all the birds. I am always wary with dogs around birds, but Ive had Schmoo for two years and Max for seven and theyve lived with birds all their lives so I think theyre pretty safe.
In fact I have one bird who I had to watch to be sure the dogs are safe. She is not a parrot. She is a twenty year old saker falcon named Sky.
Sky is very calm most of the time. She likes to keep to herself for the most part. She is the only raptor I have ever known who shows absolutely no interest in my other birds.
I also have four barn cats who wont hunt anything larger than a kibble. They live in the barn (obviously).
And to really top off the feedbill I have an arabian mare, a percheron gelding and a welsh pony stallion. I am trying to get my arab mare to accept me the falcon in close proximity, but it is slow going.
Anyone else have pets in addition to parrots?

Nah, I am allergic to fur ... hence why I have feathers ... Although, I might make an exception for either a Boxer or an English Mastiff (Chirsty says "no drooly dogs, so I doubt it ... but then again, she did say, "We aren't getting any damn birds ..." hmmmmm, thinking, thinking thinking ... )

I have a friend who raises mastiffs and she has birds as well. You would love her website. I think its called The Sweet Spot and her name is Linda Greeson. She raises blue quakers and some of the finest show cockatiels around. She used to be a cockatiel judge but I don't know if she still does it.
She has written a couple books on quakers and such.

Very nice guys. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only person who doesn't have to turn on the Discovery channel to see wild kingdom:).
Tracy, I have a question about your mealie Pepsi: Does Pepsi ever get red edging on the yellow feathers on his head? If he does then he is male.

Great choice in pooches! When I move to a place with a yard, I'm hoping to get one of those two breeds. My little sister has an English Mastiff, that still thinks it's a lap dog at 150 pounds, it just wants to be by people or cuddling at all times.

Outside of a Senegal, all I have is an aquarium.

I have 2 cats, a beautiful (and she knows it) snow white medium hair female named China and a run-of-the mill orange tabby shorthair male named Egypt. Both are indoor/outdoor kitties and great hunters but they will NOT go near my BGM! They know when they're in over their head. 2 aqariums.

Timneh African Grey, Yellow-naped Amazon
Here's our zoo:

1 Timneh Grey (Einstein)
1 Yellow-naped Amazon (Rocky)
2 dogs - Great Dane (Maia), Staffordshire Bull Terrier (Max)
3 cats - 2 "mutts" (Lizzie, Ned) and a Persian mix (Louie)
3 ferrets (Eris, Crisco, Zoey aka Spaz-girl, Fatso/Meatball, Spaz 2 aka Messy, Nasty, Disgusting)
2 guinea pigs (Scarlett, Popcorn)
1 hamster (Buzz)
3 snakes - Dumeril's Boa (Pretzel), Boa Constrictor (Rusty), Blood Python (Vlad)

The ferrets are never allowed out of their cage if a bird or guinea pig is out of their cage. They'd eat them! We have one ferret with a very strong prey drive. She got out once while I was cleaning the guinea pigs' cage. Hey, there's a ferret chasing a guinea pig. EEK! There's a ferret chasing the guinea pig!!!

The snakes lounge around in their enclosures all day except for cleaning and then the door to the room is closed.

The dogs are ok with the birds. The Dane will "play" with them if they end up on the floor. The birds don't really appreciate her form of play but she usually just pushes them with her nose. They'll beak her in the nose if they get the chance. The Staffy just ignores them except when they may be dropping some food for him. The Dane also "helps" feed the guinea pigs every night. They, and I, don't appreciate her help much. She also sees the ferrets as really fun toys that move. Ferrets are pretty tough though. We had one a while ago that pulled a 100 lb dog across the floor by his lip.

The cats are afraid of the birds and the ferrets. They're wimps. They're curious about the snakes but never have contact with them.

2 large macaws 1 CAG, 1 mini macaw, 1 amazon, 1 cockatoo
6 birds
1 dog
1 cat
4 ferrets
1 lizard

The birds are extremely fascinated with the lizard and love it when I take them to see Darwin.

The cat and ferrets get along but I have to keep the dog and birds away from the ferrets.

I don't trust my dog or cat with the birds so that makes my life hell having to keep a watchful eye on them all of the time.

I love dogs and cats but when mine leave this world I will not be getting any more because it's just to hard having them with birds.

Before ruling dogs out of your life for good, might I suggest that you look at pomerainians. I have had them and been a fan of the breed for many years. They have always done well with even the smallest of my birds.
Right now I actually put them out to guard tiny baby chickens in my backyard for time each day. My poms protect the little guys and my male pom, Max, seems to take his work very seriously. It is just hilarious to watch little four pound Max standing guard while the little chickens make kamikazi runs at his legs. They run around in little spurts right after I put them outside.
My pomerainians have also always been smart and easy going enough to get along well with the large parrots and falcons I have and have had.
I reccomend getting a puppy for best acclimation to living in an aviary. They seem to just see dogs, people and their birds as the same animal and give them all respect, exept other dogs sometimes.
For the most part i reccomend being cautious with poms and bigger dogs, but my best friend has five poms and a great dane and they have always done great together.
