Just curious for us Yanks, who are you supporting for the 2008 race? Personally, even though I had a feeling to begin with that he didn't stand a chance, I very much liked Kucinich though now I'm not sure. Can't remember off the top of my head but whoever said it was right. Putting McCain in the White House would be like giving Bush a 4th term in Office. Take it for what it's worth, but when it comes to McCain I found this article recently saying he's a liar.

Without getting too much off topic, who do you support for president?

Let's keep our replies to this topic as polite as possible

Everyone is going to have their own opinions on this topic, and politics is one of those topics that can turn nasty quickly ... let's keep this discussion as light-hearted as possible.

:50:

As for my alignment ... well, let's just say this, I want anyone but G.W. in the Whitehouse for the next 4 years!

A polite political discussion.... that could be tough.

I am a quite definitely a libertarian (or perhaps Objectivist is more accurate) so I was a Ron Paul fan for quite a while. However I am also a scientist and I've realized that I cannot vote for a president who doesn't support science. While this will quite possibly add fuel to the fire of a possibly heated topic, for me the current litmus test of a presidents scientific knowledge an critical thinking ability is their view on Evolution.

More specifically their view on "Anti-Evolution". To keep it fair I can see how his supporters could find good qualities in him, but personally the thought of Huckabee in office spreading twisted fundamentalist christian viewpoints just makes my stomache turn.

It seems the three remaining main players are Clinton, Obama, and McCain. I must admit I know next to nothing of McCain but I'd have a hard time overall voting republican this year. Of the other two I must say Id go for Hillary (Hey she already has experience running our country). She is quite well versed in, and supportive of the sciences.

Obama is quite charismatic and motivational. While I have nothing legitimate to criticize him for I just don't trust him - every time he talks I feel like I'm being tricked and deceived. It frustrates me that most of his supporters don't seem to know much about him or his views. Its almost as if they are hypnotized by his speaking so they just want to vote for him.

So all in all I'm definitely supporting Clinton this year, however I will be looking into McCain's views as already stated I really don't know anything about him yet.

NOTE: to clarify, since I brought it up I am all for having a Christian president; I am a strong Christian. I DONT however see this as a reason to foolishly deny the facts of the world around us. There is no conflict between the creation story and biological evolution.

I have to agree with Auggie's Dad on just about everything he has said.I don't follow politics very much so I'm just going with common sense here. So really I like Hillary. We have known her a long time. And she has had first-time experience through her husdand in a way no other canidate could. I'm a little suprised she wants to do it. But she must feel very passionate about it and think she can do a good job. I try to keep in mind that half of what we know about a canidate and what they say during a campain is purely out of their handler's mouths. I feel that I know Hillary well enough to say that she's smart, has a good set of morals and she knows how to put up with crap without losing her temper:D.
I am just afraid that there are too many men (no offence here) and some women who are not ready for a woman president.

Maybe, maybe not ... *finger poised over the infraction icon*

What ever happened to the separation between "Church" and "State"?

... Hillary (Hey she already has experience running our country).

Yeap, she ran it for like 6 years or so ... you know Bill screwed it up for the first two and then she took over ... :18:

I am guilty and I fall into this category ... but what it is for me is that every time I hear the current "Leader of the Free World" speak it drives me insane because he sounds like an uneducated buffoon ... I want to throw items (larger than a breadbox) at my T.V. I have a degree in English Education and I have to speak in public a lot and the way he does it just annoys me to no ends. Obama, on the other hand, speaks so eloquently that I just want to listen to him for a long time, he is a great motivational speaker if nothing else ...

I very much agree, Obama would be far better than Bush - Hell, a monkey throwing around its own feces would be better.

I also agree that Obama has a strong mastery of language and public speaking which is admirable. In fact as noted in my first post I have no legitimate claim against him - so I fully understand why reasonable people would support him. There is just something in my gut that says not to trust him. If he wanted to gain my support he'd have to move past his admittedly wonderful rhetoric and show something more concrete.

As it stands Obama is my second choice. Though being my second choice in an election ..... Hell I barely like my first choice. :)
