Today we went to see the Lippizaner Horses up North Jersey. I was like a kid in candyland. What seems like centuries ago...because it has been...I was an Equestrienne. And I was lucky enough to have seen the Lippizaner in the "Spanische Hofreitschule" in Vienna back in the 80s.

Here are LOADS of pictures. Hope you all enjoy.

I saw a show in Philly almost 10 years ago with my mom, aunt, and cousin. It was one of those shows that was traveling the US, I'm pretty sure they were the ones out of Vienna. Such an amazing show.

I've always loved them!! I keep saying that someday, when I have a barn, I'll have a Lippizaner, a Thoroughbred, a Dutch Warmblood and a Morgan (my 4 favorite breeds).

Congrats on getting to see them in person! It's a wonderful memory!

What's a Dutch Warmblood? The horse I had growing up, up until I was 18 was 1/2 Trakehner and 1/2 Hannoveraner. :)

It's a Warmblood that comes from the lines registered in the Netherlands, developed in the 1960's, so still a relatively new "breed" or "type". Used mostly for Hunter/Jumper and Dressage.

All beautiful breeds! My favorites are the Appaloosa and Friesian. Oh hell, all horses are beautiful! I drive past a farm that boards horses every day on my way into work and I swear one of these days I'm going to get into an accident because I can't help but stare (in envy of the horses... not the responsibility of all of them :p) as I drive past. Thankfully there's normally nobody on the road aside from me and sometimes a poor person behind me who has to deal with me slowing down to stare.

I was worried, as there have been videos that surfaced online of someone employing cruelty in training Lippazaners, but am glad you had a good experience, and I am sure you would have told us if any of the horses seemed unwell or frightened!

 On the contrary. These stallions were treated with THE most utmost respect and such gentleness (<-- is that a word???). They were rewarded constantly by petting them, talking to them AND giving them treats.

Most amazingly, they LOVED the applause from the audience - almost as if they knew this was another form of praise. Truly an amazing performance. :)
