Hello everyone!

I disappeared for a month or two, and I'm semi back now. (I think/hope)

Unfortunately, there were too many things that were keeping me occupied in real life, including some rather low points. :(

But, I'm back on track and everything is going well! :)

So, what have I been up to?

Hahn's Macaw - still waiting for eggs; I've been told soon, but nothing yet! Getting really excited now. The cage is on layby, and almost paid off. I've got multiple shipments of toys and accessories flowing in and my partner is cringing at how quickly everything is adding up, but that's OK! :D I can hide receipts! haha

Large Macaw - still on track for that; still not sure on B&G or GW, but will decide when we meet them in person. We're organising flights down to Tasmania for April to visit and decide. Cage, toys, etc will be taken care of in February.

Backyard stuff - currently drawing up designs for a netting enclosure in the backyard to allow flight for the Hahns macaw. Measured everything up today, and sending off for quotes tomorrow.

Personal Knowledge - still umming and ahhing about the avian medicine course, but have been doing various readings and have just started volunteering at a local aviary to learn more and basically be 'around' birds more. My first day there I got to play with and handle a large variety of birds including scaly lorikeets, rainbow lorikeets, eclectus, galahs (even a lutino!), conures and sulphur crested cockatoos. I've been taught how to handfeed smaller birds - not game enough for the galah/cockatoos though (the galahs are very loud/'fidgity'/moving around when feeding; but will learn in time. Was also shown the basics of administering antibiotics via a crop needle.

Anywho, if I remember anything else I'll post, but otherwise - hi again everyone. :) It's great to be back!

Sorry you had some rough patches. Hope all is going to be uphill from here on out :)

That backyard stuff sounds facinating, you're building a bird paradise, aren't you?

lol, I've been told "no" on my idea of a bird paradise :p I WILL have to wait until I get a property before I do that.

(Backstory: I visted Kuranda Birdworld Birdworld Kuranda - Australian Bird Sanctuary Cairns North Queensland walked in, turned to my partner and said "I want this - but bigger".) It's a rainforest setting with a waterfall, and even room for a Cassowary as well as some 400 birds) haha

I'm going to build a removal netting enclosure to allow for free flight :) Think like this: Cat Enclosures & Cat nets - Installation Gallery but for birds rather than cats :p Awaiting quotes for installation, plus I need to draft up my plans.

I am just waiting for my sister to pick up her dog which I am babysitting for her while she is on her honeymoon... then I will be putting up my very own flight room just like the ones linked on that page... only cheaper :p I used black aviary netting and the whole thing will cost me $40 all up. :)

Good to see you back Alisana. Sorry to hear about your problems and very happy to hear things are back on track..
It's spooky really because I came back today after being away for a while. I was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer so after surgeries and treatment, I am back. :D

Ooh Alisana, why are you travelling to Tasmania for A larger Macaw? There are some great breeders nearer to Queensland.
