Something happened at the vet today and I haven't been able to get my mind off it. A man walked out of the vets room with a bird cage, all covered up. You couldn't see inside the cage. He sat around in the waiting room, staring at Audrey with a sad smile. As the receptionist came out to give him the bill he started to get really teary and said alright thanks, bubye. The receptionist said "Don't worry we'll take care of her" and at that moment his face was just utterly heartbroken. His bird must of been sick and had to stay with the vets. :( I started tearing up and had a little cry after he left. Just that look on his face, I don't think I will ever forget it.... I put myself in his shoes and thought how sad it would be to have to go home without your precious baby. He kind of struck me as the type who was alone and only had his bird to keep him company. I'm not sure why, just his mannerisms and the way he was dressed. I hope his bird has a full recovery. It's very sad when you can see the intense pain in a strangers face and you just want to give them a hug and wish them the best. :(

Very sad story indeed, he must have been devastated.
My heart goes out to him

When I had my hand accident, I could not cope with my African Grey "Congo" as my hand was in a cast for over 6 months. I had been Congo's guardian for 7 years. I was so sad, giving him away, but had no choice to.

My ex-husband took Congo, looked after him for 3 years.

When they were going on vacation, I was to look after Congo for 3 weeks.
I was so excited, had everything ready for his arrival.
Before dropping Congo off, they took him to the vet, to have his wings clipped and nails trimmed.
When arriving here, I ran down to the car......
My ex was just sitting in the car crying, not saying a word.
I noticed Congo was not in the cage, and began looking for him.
When I could not find him,I began crying, knowing something was wrong.

My ex told me, when they were trimming his nails, he had a heart attack and died.
Even though he was not living with me my world fell apart.

Omg! That is such a sad story! Why did Congo have a heart attack while getting trimmed? Is that common?

Nail, wing and even beak trimmingis very devastating to a bird. Both Mac and Tiki have a fit when they have their nails trimmed. Mac will scream like a little girl while they are trimming his nails. I'm sure there were other reasons that cause the heart attack.

My wife came into the room after I had read your post and she asked what in the world was wrong. I was setting at the computer crying like a blubbering fool. I told her I had just read this sad story and while reading it, memories of the day that we had to take our 14 year old black lab named Cookie to the vet after she suffered a severe stroke. We had to have her put to sleep two days before Christmas 2 years ago. I still miss her terribly. Now my wife is crying Uhhhhhg.

Naww such sad stories. :( Life can be so cruel sometimes can't it.

antoinette That is a devastating story. :( But I guess you have beautiful Mishka now who maybe wouldn't be here if congo was still around. May congo be resting in peace and flying with the angels <3

mtdoramike Sorry to bring up the bad memories! :( I still cry over my doggy who I had to put down 7 years ago, still hurts like a fresh wound. I think losing a pet is something that never stops hurting.

I haven't had this happen with one of my feathered friends yet. My most favorite little cat, Mister Finck, got really sick with a nasty bladder infection. His urine was the shade of dark orange juice. I had to leave him overnight and cried the entire way home without him. That cat was the center of my world and not having him around was just heartbreaking. All I could think of was how scared he must be staying in the vet's office.

Yipe very sad story and very common.

Congo was always seen to by Dr Russell, for many many years.
Congo loved Dr Russell, and trusted him completely.
He never had to restrain or towel Congo when clipping or trimming his wings.

On that particular day, Dr Russell was off, and another vet and his assistant saw to Congo.

The moment they went in Congo was totally stressed out, was screeching and scratching them, they had no option but to towel him.

The vet and his assistant did everything by the book, they were not to blame at all.

I reckon the toweling was too much for Congo.

I am a very very emotional human being, cry for almost anything LoL
(should have been an actress) hehe

I did cry for the gentleman, many many tears.
The tears for Congo were tears of joy, remembering all the good times we shared, and the wonderful 7 years of being his guardian.

So am I lol! I felt embarrassed at the vet when I started crying. But I guess its good we feel compassion for others and emotional rather than being cold! :)

that is sooo sad :(

I had a "vet episode" myself a few days back when i had to take bandit in. A girl brought in her african grey, and the mom was sitting with me in the waiting room looking ratehr annoyed. when the girl came out she looked really upset and the grey had to be kept by the vet, and as the left the mom just kicked up a fuss over the bill - asking if "it was worth it"... that really stirred me up! i felt so bad for the girl, she was really upset but i was so angry over the moms reaction at the same time... i'd do anything for my little ones....
