Just thought I'd post a thread for all members to post their thoughts, well wishes and fears during this time.

I'm not a believer in God, but see no harm in people posting prayers for one another.

Please all keep safe and keep your fids close by and safe too.

Lots of hugs and thoughts for you all; please keep us updated if you're in the path of this hurricane as I'm sure we'd all like to know that you're doing okay!

Again, keep safe and hugs!

Yes, same thoughts here. Be safe, be cautious, be aware, and most of all BE PREPARED.

Having been through bad ones, I can share that being as prepared as possible is critical, so that if you lose power & water, community access&services, phones/net, etc. - you will feel more confident and manage okay afterward.

Each time, my fid exhibited no behavior that indicated he had any idea there was a vicious storm all around our house. Even when we had no power for many days, he seemd pretty unaffected because he was a comfortable as usually is and nothing really changed in his routine.

Be prepared with food/water/meds/first-aid, communication plans with family/neighbors/friends/medical, lighting, extra clothes and blankets in case it is cold afterward and you have now source of heat.

Blessings.

We unforunately live about fifteen minutes south of harrisburg and according to the radar predictions the hurricane is supposed to come directly through here. Right now its rainy and super windy but not horrible yet. We live in the woods and our power goes out in even the simplest storms and they don't always rush to restore it. To make matters better, none of my three bird rooms have windows so when the power goes out they are pitch black and the birds don't seem to eat or drink when its that dark. I thought about dragging them all out to the living room but it would seriously take up the entire living room(we have over 70 birds) and we have quite a few pairs that are nesting right nw. Dragging their cages to another part of the house means that they will all likely abandon their nests :( on a good note, my partner who lives about an hour away voluntered to take all but three of my hand feeding babies, close to thirty birds. The three I kept are only eating three times day so it shouldn't be too much of an issue. The thing is, we have a well so when we have no electric we have no running water. We have plenty of filtered water stored but in order to handfeed I will have to start the woodstove and heat it on there which would be very tedious to do every 3 hours. But as of now we still have power and all the birds have fresh food an water and are hunkered down. Hoping and praying this isn't ad bad as they are predicting and really hoping we don't have any trees come down on the house. I know a lot of others on here are from this same area and I can't stress enough to please be safe and try to remain calm for your fids sake. We all know how they can pick up on our feelings and I can tell by how ours are acting that they already know something is up.

We are in between Philly and Delaware....both have shut down, but we're still allowed on the roads at this point......I'm at work, but they are letting us go at noon.

We have everything prepared at home to hunker down for a few days if need be.....going to fill the tub with water when I get home (have to be able to flush...lol) then settle in and wait it out......Hoping everyone in the path stays safe!

We are 10 miles from the ocean, right dab smack in the middle of where Sandy is predicted to make landfall. Everyone to the east of us has been evacuated.

We prepared to the best of our ability and now will have to hope for the best. We fully expect to lose power...soon.

Thank you all for the well wishes, I'll try and stay in touch as best as I can. :)

I'm about an hour west of Atlantic City. We're getting our butts kicked with wind right now. I'm watching huge trees in my front yard bend like nothing. I've got my birds with me keeping me company and I just lost a piece of bread from my sandwich to Carlisle. I'm glad he is acting normal even with the rain lashing at the windows. :p We haven't lost power yet :/

Same here...I am SO happy to still have power, but I won't hold my breath. :)

My yard resembles a battlefield from my NEIGHBOR'S branches.

Wendy!!! YOU BE CAREFUL!!!! I hope your house is well above sea level!! I've been thru more hurricanes than I can count in Tx when living on the coast, Ike is the ONLY one I ran from and I was right. It wasn't a "bad" storm category wise, but that storm surge was insane, we lost everything we didn't take with us. PLEASE exercise caution and use common sense!!
(We only lived 1 block from the water)

It's getting really gusty here. Sandy is about an hour or so from making land fall in Atlantic City. Our yard has a ton of branches and debris in it.
