New Dog Interested in Birds

Shock Collar works good but not popular with some folks. Trouble is you've got a very active dog, that's bred for bird hunting in a home with a bird.It's instinctive for that breed of dog.

- 1 nanday conure Black Jack, 1 Brotogeris parakeet Whiff, 1 ring neck dove Eliza, and 6 society finches (3 are tame). RIP my parent pairs of societies and my little gouldian finches
i would be very watchful and careful. since she is a puppy, you should start training her now. i found this link about training them to coexist, some of it is questionable but its the best i could find. hope it helps

Dog saliva can kill a bird... just saying..
And I mean the saliva alone... not the teeth or crushing force of the jaws... same with cats...

Eastern Galah - Suki Lala 10 months old
Greyhound Cross - Max 7 years old
Great Dane Cross - Marque 2 years old
Rats -Lola 1yr old, Tsuyu, Enya, Fury all 6 months old, Cookie 8 weeks
Here's my advise.
Teach her the leave it command immediately and whenever she shows interest in the bird use it or distract her. I would start with leash on when puppy is around the bird for better control.
P.S bad choice of breed for a house with a bird. Its hardwired in her breed to want to catch a bird. I had a half greyhound before I got Suki and still after 6 months training if she moves quick or flies he looks like he will eat her.

I took the puppy to obedience class and she already knows the leave it command and when I say it she leaves the birds alone but still follows them with her eyes but does not go near them.....the trainer suggested an e-collar for some more work to make sure the puppy knows birds are off limits

"Willie"&"Lola"B&G Macaw,
"Dixie"LSC2, and "Nico" Scarlet Macaw.
I adopted a Springer Spaniel years ago and she LOVES my birds and rabbits. And they love her as well. She never once hurt any of them. I did not have a hard time training her to behave with the other animals. She was a natural.
