A MOUSE...in the house....

I used to have a round, oriental rug in my bird room. The day I brought Ripley home, I cleaned it, rolled it up neatly and dragged it into the garage. Well today I decided to pull it back out and put it back.

So I dragged it out of the garage, moved Hunter's cage over a bit, laid it on the floor and started unrolling it.

It all happened VERY very fast. As I was unrolling it I saw a couple of pieces of hulled sunflower seeds, but before I could give them even a second thought a MOUSE ran out of the rug, right by my leg. Mind you, mice don't frighten me, and I'm NO screamer, but when that thing scurried alongside my leg I let out noises and sounds I didn't know were in me. One of my dogs (Ziva) was right there with me, and the second she saw the mouse she made one giant leap, luckily caught her footing on the half rolled out rug, and GULPED UP the mouse. As I was hollering for her to "give out", I saw her munch and swallow. :32:

INSTANT HEADACHE!!

Called the vet, who got a good laugh out of this, but he assured me that Ziva would be just fine. :30: (He didn't ask about me)

As for the sunflower hulls, I FINALLY figured out where they came from. Since my birds get ZERO sunflowers, this rodent (I hope there isn't more) must have grabbed a mouthful of sunflower seeds from my outdoor bird feeding stations, and decided to happily munch on them inside the garage. And yes, I figured out where it came in...but that won't be a quick fix, I'm afraid. :( It chewed a little hole into the bottom of the garage door, where there is (WAS) weatherproof stripping. :54:

:DOh my LOL

are U okay, since the vet didn't ask?:32:

I stooped using outside feeders for this very reason, my outside birdies only get stuff when I'm home to put it out, good news on that is they like pellets now LOL

LOL...Yes, Sandy, thank you, I'm ok. :30: I promise, mice don't scare me - USUALLY. This just happened SO fast and SO totally unexpected. I thought my heart was going to jump out of my chest.

I'm afraid that this mouse's brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles are possibly hiding in my garage, so I put out some mouse traps already. :54:

Wait...your outdoor birds are eating pellets??? SWEET! I've got a suit cake out there, suit pellets, mealworms, sunflower and safflower seeds and a finch mix, but ONLY because of the inclement weather. :54:

Yep,
Where I get my pellets and bird food from said its perfectly fine to feed to the outdoor birds. The squirrels even like it.
They get all the left over pellets and see, anything close to expiry and anythings my Fids won't eat. Were still experimenting with different food, pellets and avi cakes.
I got a bunch of samples because our little brown head doesn't like pellets, the little princess LOL

Awww.. I am glad I was not there at the time... There would have been 2 screaming Wendy's :11: Imagine the poor Birds faces with 2 screaming women LOL

It must have been a shock for you at the time, but I am sure you are laughing about it now ;)

HAHAHAHA! I think had you been here, and we both would have screamed, all the fids would have fallen off their perches. Heck, Ziva may have even hauled butt then instead of lending me her hand...I mean mouth.

That is one of the reasons I no longer have bird feeders outside since we moved to Fla. Not to mention they have a constant supply of food down here anyway. Up North it used to be my job to demouse the lawn .tractor which lived in the shed. we lived in the woods and those cute little deer mice were everywhere. Poor Ray would start the mower and out would come mom and dad mouse and leave the kids inside mower. He is not particularly fond of mice. If I were you I would give that dog an extra cookie. I have to admit your post made me laugh and brought back some memories:eek::D

We live around alot of paddock, so there are field mice everywhere. We struggle to keep the mice out sometimes. It's hard, and I absolutely hate mice. There so damn quick!
We have the birds upstairs not to keep the mice away from them.
Haven't seen any for a few months though, thank god, I hope this time there gone for good! Can't wait to move! Lol
Hope you are okay Wendy! And that little mouse didn't give you too much of a scare :p haha

Where are you moving to, Brodie?
I'm used to having the occasional rodent in my back yard, and I am SO happy when I hear "my" owl at night because rodents = food for him, so hopefully he's going to stick around. :D

And yes, I have now fully recoverd. LOL.

Alison, so your hubby would run the mice over with his riding lawnmover?

I admit, I giggled when I read that. :54:

Ziva is STILL sniffing the carpet, as if she's hoping to find more mice.

I hate mice myself. Give that dog a reward. My mom lives in the country so she is always killing mice. She has a little terrier dog and when the dog tries to get in corners my mom says I need to put more mouse traps out. On a side note animal planet once discussed a mouse infestation here is part of it [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOwinLWrEIw]Infested!- Insane Mouse Plague! - YouTube[/ame]

Maheen, I think you're right. But it would have been VERY embarrassing for me to watch myself like that.

No, there were NO cameras or camcorders anywhere near me when it happened. Lucky for me. :)

No hubby didn't run them over I would put the babies with their nesting material where mom and dad could find them at the base of the tree next to the shed. Hey at least they were outside. Now if they came in the house that was a different story:D:D E:Dvil grin:)

If i was there, it would of been 2 screaming Wendys and a crying Tab hahahahaha :D

We sometimes have mice in the stables, our super old awesome hunter cat died, and my cat is a vegetarian.. no kidding... she sees a mice and just walks away :p

So, i am fine with mice, i jump if they run out from somewhere, but i rescue them from the feed bins when they get stuck, i am so nice ;)

BUT... about 2 years ago i hopped in bed one night.... and there was a mouse in my covers ! I felt it, looked, JUMPED out of bed, ran into the lounge room, and started crying  hahahahaha it was just from the shock  ;)

I am glad you are ok! :09: and Ziva is quite the mouse hunter!
