Thermo perch

Been training my grey to use the thermo perch. He hated it at first. To slippery I took a metal file and made x notches small Around the perch. Don't go deep. Just tiny for a grip. Then made it the first thing he has to step on when entering cage. Left off heat till use to the perch. Now he's always on it. I set a outlet timer to turn on and off to prevent heat soars that others have stated has happen

Sounds good JC, but you might want to check the amps or watts listing for the perch against what the timer is rated at.....you're probably safe, but if the ratings are not at least 10% apart...timer greater than the perch, you could be setting yourself up for a potential hazard.....

Heating units, toasters, electric blankets, fish tank heaters, etc., etc., etc., should only be used with mechanical type timers that are rated at least 10% higher than the maximum load the heating unit is rated for.....

I have a thermo perch that my budgies use . They had trouble with the slippery surface but soon got used to it . I'm thinking about using your nail filer idea
