So i finally got to get back in the saddle for the first time after the accident :D

I finally stopped feeling sore, sick, dizzy, light headed and achy yesterday, so today i thought i would ride again!

It is funny, a lot people have an accident and lose confidence.. But as they say, you are not a good horse rider until you fall off 100 times hahaha

It's strange how you feel good, until you put your body under pressure, i thought i was pretty much all better, until i hopped on, and realised that i felt so weak!!!

It was like i had no energy or strength! :(
and of course Kyros was very fresh after his fun week off, and in a totally new arena, so he wasn't as good as he was a week ago with softness, but hopefully he will become softer again after a few rides! Silly silly boy! haha

PLUS!! When i fell off, i landed on my coccyx, back, then head... and i didn't realise my back was sore... Until 3 days ago when my back and coccyx would not stop aching, it killed!

And whilst i was riding, it was aching again, must be very bruised, hopefully that will heal soon!

Just did alot of walking and trotting for 20 minutes, then had a quick canter each way, he was a good boy, apart from wanting to veer out of the circle hahaha

Dont look at my hands and arms in this picture, terrible position, was trying something out hahaha
But look how shiny he is!

How could i stay mad at him...
Love my little Kyros <3

And walking back home!

Can everyone please note,, see that back massive right back hoof?!?!?!? THAT WENT INTO MY ABDOMEN!!!!!!! hahahahaha

Why am i in a different arena instead of mine you ask?

Because Kyros cant jump out of this one.. and if he does, then my parents are sending him to the olympics ;) hahahahaha

HAHAHAHA Not murderous.. Just misunderstood ;)

Honestly, he has the sweetest most gentle eyes i have ever seen..

But, as warmbloods are called 'dumbloods' he wasn't too bright when he decided to jump out of the arena, and after that he just lost his head and didn't know what to do.. Cant blame him.. He is a horse! :p

Plus riding huge horses, you put yourself at the risk right! ;)

This is an older pic, but he is such a sweety haha

Hi ya Tab.
Great to see you back in the saddle. Hope you 'settle' into it again soon. I was only wondering yesterday when you'd give it a go.

Kurosawa looks stunning........ Love the forth picture ;)

YAY Tab!!! How was that mile walk TO the arena...and then back??? :54:

I just looked at the fence around the arena, and I will bet that in a few years Kyros can possibly jump that one, too. Just remember the picture of his granddad, where he was going over a wall with 2 grown men standing there.

You are looking GREAT together!! :D Did you do lots of bending?

Hahaha ohhh the walk was just brilliant ;) took 10 minutes to get there -_- but he just plodded along next to me, then 2 kangaroos jumped out about 10 meters infront of us and he didnt even flinch -_- Yet there was a shiny metal thing outside the arena which didn't even move, but THAT was the thing that was going to kill him.. Not the 2 kangaroos who jumped out of no where...sigh.. horses... :p hahaha

OMG.. I am not even game to jump that fence, i dont think ever!!!! It is taller than me.. and im 181cm...

I actually said that to mum today!! 'His grandad jumped this height, he probably could do it too ;) ' hahaha

Tried to do bending, he really wasn't focused like he normally was, wanted to hold his head high and look around.. Did lots of circles, and tiny circles bending around my leg.. But no where near as good as he was :(
Just wasnt carrying his head nicely and softly like normal

He was like he was the first day here, so i think its just cause its a new arena and he was excited to be out again.. So i think in a few more rides he will be back to his old self :)

Just an idea: Before you ride him next time, take some lunging gear with you. Use your reins to tie him off at the saddle (on each side), so his head isn't in the clouds. That way you can warm him up until he is focused, and then once you get on, he should be all warmed up, ready for some leg work. :D

BAHAHAHHAHA @ the Kangaroos not bothering him. I think had that happened to me I would have been the one losing her bowels. :54:

Definitely will do that tomorrow.. I think he was just excited being in a new place, plus being fresh after a week of no work, plus- I am a warmblood and i think i'm amazing no matter what ;)

and, cause Kitai and Klaatu are now in the front of our property, we can see them from the arena... Like 500 meters away, but they are there..and Kyros was like ohhhhh its the terrible two!!! :p hhahaha

They have the nickname batman and robin!

Tomorrow mum needs photos of all 3 K's together :O So that will be a fun day! Big photoshoot haha

Aside from the different venue and the break he's had, you wouldn't be your usual self either with a bit of stiffness/whatever from the fall. You should both get back to normal quite quickly.

That is very very veryyyyy true... Wouldnt of had the same energy and movement as i normally do! Plus not having the energy to give him a kick when he was trying to veer off, so he was getting away with it ;)

Will be back to the old team soon enough! haha

gosh, you don't want that again!...ugggg.

are horses like birds? I would assume it would take them time to adjust to a new surrounding?

Hahaha lets try and hope for a clean slate for next year, with no injuries ;)

Yes, definitely! :)

Once you get them out competing and in new environments with show atmospheres, they learn to adjust very quickly, and by the end of it, they dont care about a new place..

But my little Kyros has been in a bubble the past 2 years, was only ridden at his old owners arena... Didnt go out much

So just have to practice getting him in different environments and he will be fine! :)

Just like birds, have to socialise them in different places, and in the end its just another fun adventure for them, instead of them being scared of a big new place! :D

OH!!! I introduced Fargo and Kyros for the first time today.... Kyros had absolutely no idea what Fargo was.. He ran away, then ran back... Then sniffed him.. Then ran away... Then ran back and sniffed him again.. :20: Then he seemed ok with him, stood there patting him, and he followed us when we walked away.. :09:

I think Wendy's idea of lunging him first is the way to go! He is just beautiful Tab, you are making me miss my horses! After two back surgeries my husband is begging me not to ride again! I do miss it though, nice to live vicariously through you!

Tab, each time you refer to him as "little Kyros" I crack up laughing. Little my bum! He is ENORMOUS, standing 17 hands!!! :D

And how funny that the little black guy ran away from your ENORMOUS scary Fargo.

Good on you Tab!!! Nerves of steel, girl! I'd've been laying down still whinging if I were you (and in a wheelchair). Kyros will get back into the swing, same as you. I agree with Wendy and brianlinkles: lunging is a great idea. Gives him a chance to work out the kinks, reminds him to flex and saves your poor bum from unnecessary pain. I think your idea of working large and small circles is a good one too. You could add serpentines and figure-eights (does he do flying changes yet?) for variety.

Gee, I'd give anything to visit and watch a training session with you guys! As brianlinkles says, it's *so* good to ride vicariously with you.

Dunno if I told you, but during our recent bushfire crisis, my sister and her kids spent a day helping to evacuate horses from Minmi, which is just up the road from us. The fire front was *roaring* toward them and there were all these horses needing help! Everyone from the local area who had a float or truck was there, lined up and going in one by one as the police allowed it to ferry out the GGs. Even the local horse transport company (can take twelve horses at once) was there to help. Each vehicle would load up and then cart the Gs over to the Pony Club paddock and safety. Then they'd go back.

Francie (my sister) was lucky enough to strike a mean old stockhorse that had never been on a float in its life. Her husband and son did the linking arms under its bum thing and of course it never moved (except, upwards). So, they got five blokes, four linking arms and one poking with a star post and virtually lifted the horse onto the float. It kicked and stomped all the way to the Pony Club, but it was saved! Poor Francie nearly had a coronary driving along with this mad horse in the back, but she managed. I'm very proud of my little sister. She was brave that day!

Anyway, the aftermath was that seventy-one miscellaneous horses and ponies were lumped in together in the Pony Club paddock. They went from fabulously expensive performance horses (like your dear Kyros) down to an eight-hand Sh!tland who got down on her hands and knees and crawled out from under the fence. She spent the night in the toilet block, for lack of anywhere else to keep her safe. The funny thing was that not one fight or argument happened (that we know of) in the day or two all these mixed horses were together in just six acres of space. They all stood facing the smoke and whickering among themselves, just as many, many groups of humans were doing under similar circumstances all over N'cle.

One casualty of fires that never gets mentioned is fences! Now, there's all these people faced with re-fencing paddocks and finding horse agistment (never an easy thing) while they do it. So yeah - lots of drama went down with the fires last week. Hope we're done burning for the year!!!
