As they say you can't please everyone all of the time.

I've been very happy to see this community growing over the past year and I hope to see it continue. But we must be able to work together and communicate respectfully. We have a very diverse group here with people from all around the world with different backgrounds and personalities.

Some of us may, in other settings, cuss like sailors (hey, we do have a few former sailors here). I would expect such extremes would be restrained, and they are. But just as we all work to express ourselves in a community friendly way those at the other end of the spectrum must allow some leeway in peoples expression.

I encourage anyone to contact me with any concerns they have with other members or their conduct. I will always take them seriously, but after investigating the issue and seeing the context I may tell you to 'suck it up' if the other members behavior was not offensive or derogatory but rather was a witty comment with the caliber of language that would be acceptable on children's shows.

On the flip side there are some (former) members who, while maintaining prim and proper language, manage to deride and disrespect nearly every member they interact with. One such abrasive personality was just removed from the forums.

If she returns (as a guest) to see this posting then I would like to thank her as after I provided a warning, and a temporary ban she came back and seemed to be making an attempt to be more respectful. Unfortunately however, those attempts were insufficient. I suspect she meant well, but her style of communication was counter-productive to the continued building of this community, and despite ample opportunity, and perhaps effort on her part, she was unable to adapt her tone.

You all may or may not agree with how some issues are handled. So its a good thing this forum is not a democracy! :p

So again, we have many diverse personalities here, we must each recognize that and work together to maintain the wonderful community we have made. I will continue to provide as much freedom for different personalities as I can, but I will also act to ensure that no one member scares off all the others.

This forum is not a democracy!

I, actually, like to think of this place as a Democracy ... there are a few of us who have the power to make changes to this place as we want to; but, that's only when we feel that it's in the best interest of the forum as a whole. And it's only in the best interest of the forum if a majority of the community members agree on it! If you think that this forum is missing something, or you have any suggestions you can ALWAYS come to any of us with those suggestions.

AD and I are probably the only two surviving members of the "Parrot Forum Blow-Up of 2008" This place deserted (and for the record, the person who lead the pack out has since disbanded her forum that she created ... it's no longer active) quickly after that. There were times that we would go WEEKS ... WEEKS without posts in here this place was dead! When I logged on here this evening (after about 3 weeks since my last log in) I had over 800 NEW POSTS waiting! THAT'S SO EXCITING!!! It's great to have members again, it's great that you are communicating with one another and sharing knowledge with one another. We don't take you guys for granted at all! We are not all that far removed from being a forum without a lot of members, we want to keep this place great so that everyone is as happy as possible!

With that being said - I want to let you all know that I have promoted Auggie's Dad from "Super Moderator" to "#1 A$$ Kicker" He's done a lot of work around this place while I have been off dealing with a pregnant wife who gave birth 6-weeks early to our now 4-month-old daughter (sorry, been a touch busy) ... I am now staying at home most of the day with the baby so I will be peeking in more often; but, this forum is getting bigger and it's more than AD and I (well, AD's been pulling my slack for almost a year now) can handle alone so we will need a few more MODERATORS. Moderators need to enforce the TOS, ban spammers and keep the general welfare of the forum as a whole. If you are interested let one of us know and we will let you know what exactly we are looking for.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you and hearing stories about your birds ...

Hi everybody, I'm totally new on here and have no idea how anything works, but I have done some reading on here ahead of time and have to agree with every body, that praised Auggie's Dad ... I liked what I got to read in general and in particular;"would like to add my thanks to Auggie's Dad" ... and everybody else, that's so curtious on here ... it's why I decided to joyn up in the first place :) Now, if only somebody would point me to the right direction, were I can start asking the "burning questions" about eventually adopting an older McCaw, I would be very thankful, because, I don't think, this here is the propper Thread, if I'm not mistaken. So once again, thanks for the help and nice meeting you all and please be patient with me, since I'm a raw beginner wenn it comes to Forums, Threads and even McCaws. All I know, is, that older McCaws like ME ... maybe because I'm older myself(53) and somewhat layed back :) Now I can't wait to learn more from all of you experienced people, about these birds, that have stolen my heart!
