For some odd reason, our current heatwave combined with the awful humidity mucks up my airways and makes my asthma flare up. So, I'm wheezing around like an elderly teakettle lately and not in the very best frame of mind. Also, Madge grabbed at my earrings the other day and managed to get them both in her bill and give a good yank (I have double piercings). So, I've also been whinging about infected ears because the el cheapo earrings I usually wear really needed to be replaced with decent sleepers so the ear could heal. Grrrrr! Bad mood!

Yesterday, hubby and I spent the day out shopping. With a lot of effort, we finished the Christmas stuff and got home too late for dinner. When we arrived, my darling children had cleaned the house (including three large bird cages), hung out the washing, put the dinner on AND bought me two (2) pairs of earrings. All this they did without being asked, just because I'd been having problems and they wanted to help out.

It's times like these that remind me how very much I love being their Mum! Thank you, Mattanelli! :)

Tonight, I've made them a huge pile of shortbread and a fruit cake (both of which I loathe) by way of thanks. Tomorrow, I'm going to make a Big Fat Chocolate cake so I can join in the eat-fest as well. :D

NAAAWWW!!!! Trish, that is SO very special, thoughtful, caring and loving what your kids did for you! It 100% reflects on their upbringing. ;)

I hope your ears heal quickly. OUCHY!!! Hey, at least the beaks didn't pull them all the way through the lobe. :52:

That big fat chocolate cake sounds TOO yummy! I can do without fruit cake, too. :32: :54:

They sound like you have raised them right. It is wonderful to be surrounded by loving people at any time, especially this time of the year. I am so glad that your kids could help when you are feeling under the weather. I am pretty sure that they appreciate the shortbread and fruit cake. They love you as well.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words about Matt and Ellie. I just had to post about what they did because it came at a moment when I really needed a helping hand. Happily, all our Christmas preparations are in place and we're having a lovely, relaxed Christmas Eve. Normally, we'd all go to Midnight Mass, but this year is the first Christmas my Mum is in a nursing home. It seems sort of lonely to go to Mass without her, so we'll go tomorrow instead.

I hope we all enjoy a happy Christmas together with our families and wish for a wonderful and fulfilling New Year for everybody. :)
