Pepsi and sprite, both are American male budgies
I have been quite inactive on this forum for the last year due to advanced studies , so I have been unable to update . Pepsi and Sprite are now adults ! I remember when I first joined in 2012 , pepsi and sprite were little and I had SOMEWHAT of an idea on how to to care for these beautiful creatures , even as little as a few weeks on here turns you into a specialist :D. While I was inactive I aged and now I'm in jr high as compared to 5 and 6th grade , and picked up the hobby of the world of goldfish along with my already started hobby of betta fish ! I just wondered if other members share the same interests as me , breeding or taking care of large tanks . I don't have a array of goldfish like other people due to the fids ,Mickey ( goldfish) , and the MUCH harder studies. They ate up all my time to care for more , but it's something I might be interested in the future .P.S I know I spelled "Hobbyists " wrong LOL, guess it just adds to my history:D

I'm...well, not a youngin (ha) but I have bettas and a tropical fish tank along with my birds. Just make sure to have a good cover on your aquariums because you don't want a bird to flop in!

I had goldfish in the past, but now I have black and cardinal neon tetras, a dwarf gourami, a catfish and lots of baby snails.

I've thought about getting an aquarium but worry about the extra time it takes to maintain it. I think Boomer might enjoy seeing colorful fish. You should post photos of your set up.

I used to be into the fish aquarium hobby before birds. I had saltwater, mini reef, fancy goldfish, bettas, freshwater, (and Cichlids for a short time).

Boom Boom, have you ever had fish? If not, it's really a chemistry lesson! Lots more to learn than meets the eye (just like birds huh?)... It's really something you've gotta be passionate about as a hobby, or else when the novelty wears off it will be a huge unpleasant chore to maintain even a modest sized tank! I do think Boomer would like it though. :)

My birds: Skyler/Sky, violet Indian Ringneck. Mother's birds: Norman, African Grey and Mildred, Blue Crowned Conure.
I used to keep many fish last year. I had at least seven tanks at once before. I used to keep mainly Angelfish, but I did have a lot of plecos, mostly Bristlenose. I even got my Bristlenose to breed once.

I knew a lot about fish, including breeding Angelfish and Angelfish genetics. I also had a small planted nano shrimp tank.

I gave up the hobby because it was a lot of work and I just stopped keeping them eventually. Fish need weekly water changes and a good sized tank that isn't over stocked to be kept healthy.

Keeping fish was more work than I ever thought it would be. It can be a good hobby though.

I've never had fish. I would capture tadpoles as a child but they all died on me after a while :( I used to work for Petsmart when I was younger (boo, hiss), and some of the customers who came in had complex set ups. Both interesting and intimidating. Most of the info got totally lost on me. I like looking at aquariums but knew then I didn't have it in me to properly care for one.

I have an aquarium with tropical fish. I used to have several tanks, and kept bettas, but I got too upset when they came to the end of their (relatively short) lives and I needed my benchspace back, so I prefer my big tank where the fish are more "generic" and not such personalities.

There's a bit of learning curve when you start, but it isn't hard when you understand the basics.

They do have a pretty short lifespan. I had a Betta called Bert. He lived two years. He had a great personality. He was a very angry fish.

I used to breed guppies when I was only 12, had three 20 gallon tanks that I maintained constantly. I had over 50 fish and kept them for about 3 years before I bought one with fin rot. I didn't realize it at the time, and as a result it killed every single fish I had. I've never bought fish since... it totally devastated me as a child.

Plus maintaining tanks is such a pain, way more work than cleaning a bird cage, that's for sure!

Wow, that's pretty good for a 12 year old!

When I first started with aquariums, it was saltwater and reefs... Anyone who knows that hobby knows it was A LOT of in depth stuff to learn. You just cannot learn everything right away. As a newbie (young adult) I went through and wasted SO much money on mistakes! It was sickening now that I look back.

I was obsessed with my fish. I obviously didn't work, but all my money went to their health and enrichment. My mom was incredibly impressed by me apparently, but I never thought anything of it. I just loved them. My dream was to have a crazy fish highway through my room, and I was saving up to do it until I lost them.

One of my old co-workers has a saltwater tank, and she told me about how much work it is and how she bought a $40 fish that managed to jump out and suicide. I can't imagine even trying to handle a tank like that! I now only enjoy fish when I visit friends or go to pet stores, haha :)

... but maybe one day I'll have my dream kitchen idea, with a fish tank in the wall looking out to where the TV room is:

But that would be after being able to dedicate a giant room to my birds and having a huge outdoor aviary. I'm allowed to dream, right? ;)

I used to have saltwater fish tanks doing reefs and predator tank. Also kept up with the FW tank that we kept upgrading due to our Parrot fish growing bigger and bigger, we've had those for over 10 years....I got burnt out on saltwater due to all the maintenance so I sold everything I've had and stick to FW. So now I have a 75g along with a 37g that a friend give me not long ago....I've got Parrot fish, Rainbows, Gourmi, Tetras, Earth Eaters, Pink Tail Chalceus, Giant Danios, and Pletcos in my 75. In the 37 I have Hatchet, Neon Tetras, Mollys, Fancy Guppies, Albino Bristle Nose and a regular Bristle Nose Algae eater. My guppies are about to have babies soon.....

I've had everything from reef tanks to planted tanks to gold fish tanks to discus tasks. I finally decided it was too much work to keep up with birds and tanks so the fish went to live in my friend's high school class and I sold all my equipment.

I love tanks though. It's so relaxing.

I love the tank , it's so sophisticated ! About the suicide thing , my Betta (Blaze) jumped out of his plastic cup during tank maintenance . When I went to check on him he wasn't in the cup ! I fully freaked out and thought I accidently dumped him in the sink and prepared to get my dad to open the piping when I heard a scream from the living room . Turned out it as my sister and blaze was on the floor . He was fine when I put him in the tank and swimmed happily , the day after that he even made a bubble nest. That day scared the living poop out of me:eek: . I have a question , Mickey right now is in a 6 gallon tank right now since he is really small ( he's a common goldfish ) and In a few months I want to put him in a 60 gallon tank with tank mates . I wanted comet goldfish and tetras , but I'm concerned that since goldfish can aggressive and are fast swimmers I didn't know if they can be housed with tetras . Has anyone ever housed tetras with goldfish ?

Its not a matter of aggression but temps. Tetras are tropical and need 76-82 degree water and goldfish prefer colder water. In warm water, goldfish make SO MUCH waste its hard to keep up.

Maybe try white cloud minnows? They are cute and they like cold water.

I have three tanks: 29 gal, 37 gal and 5 gal. I have angelfish, a pair of blue rams (my first pair - never had them in my life and yet, I am having a lot of success with them), a female betta, pristella tetras, banjo catifsh, some glofish with zebra danios. Yeah.. My fish keeping keeps on getting bigger and bigger..
