What bird would you LOVE to see in person?

I would absolutely LOVE to see a Raven in person! (besides my BW Pionus

).
All we see here are crows. Anyone have Ravens where you live?

How about you? Doesn't matter what type of bird. Or if you're longing to see your dream parrot species and have never seen one in person... What is it?

We have ravens here where I am, there is a pair that roosts in the trees by us. Our little brown head has learned to copy their call lol.

Ravens are all over Cali. We see them more west Texas. I bet you could find one not too far from where you live.

Snowy owl was my most wanted bird until one showed up in Dallas a few years ago. Harpy eagle and Stellars sea eagle are my most wanted now.

Worst pic ever, but here's a nesting pair of ravens when I went to visit my folks in Idaho a few years ago.

And an equally horrid pic of a black chinned hummer from the same trip. We get lots of ruby throats here.

Nice idea for a post Julie.

We have crows, grackles, and ravens. I feed them in my backyard, the ravens are fun to watch, they are very healthy, they get parrot extras and unlike the spoiled parrots, they love pellets. They soak most of their food before they eat it.

When I read your post, the first bird that came to mind was Terry's, Darwin, immediately followed by a lot of other member's birds that I've got to know on the forum.

Ooh, Trish I'd love to visit Australia

for all the bird species you guys are so lucky to have and see! To me, it seems strange to see parrots flying wild all over. Though we do have some Amazons and Conures, but nothing like Australia.

I once lived somewhere with a tangerine tree, and it was home every year to a hummingbird hen who would lay tic tac sized eggs in a tiny nest. We got to see babies and everything. We had to carefully pull the branch down to see, and careful not to let go of the branch too fast and flip the babies and nest out of the tree haha. I forgot what kind it was, but one of the bigger and more common species here. Still, SO tiny. When the 2 babies got big and feathered, there was no room in the nest for mom, and since she didn't have to sit anymore, she'd sleep on a nearby branch. Cute. You'd have loved to see it!

I know Ravens are in California, but I've read that their habitat is more away from the city and suburbs. I think we probably have to go into the mountains or farther away from civilization. I don't think they feel comfortable around humans like crows do. I think they're found in pairs or solitary rather than huge flocks like crows.

Aren't they SO endangered that it's unlikely to see

I've seen one in the zoo of course. Sad though.

I have lived in Northern Canada (9 hours north of Edmonton Alberta) in the past and saw Ravens every day...they are very large and very smart. Unfortunately they typically hang out where ever garbage is kept because it's a free meal. When you get groceries in town often they would feast on your food if you had to make another stop such as the bank. They would decend on your food in large numbers within minutes if you left it alone and open to the air. Most people living there regard them as nothing more than pests, or winged rats as they were often called. It sure wasn't my view because I saw them as so beautiful.
I think my all time dream would have to be traveling to Australia or south America to see parrots in the wild!

That's what I've read, that Ravens are much larger than Crows. What kind of parrot would you say they're as big as (roughly)? The body, not including the different shaped head and tail, are they a bit like a large Amazon? Macaw? Or not quite that big?

We have a tree that red tails love to perch in, and apparently bald eagles too- we're right next to a river, and earlier this year I spotted a juvenile, and then last week my husband spotted an adult.

I was actually quick enough to run inside and grab my camera so I could take this picture lol

Ravens are big like Macaws, they make Bosley our Amazon look small. They also kill small rodents and do live in pairs or solitary. They also are very territorial and chase other birds out of their area. I would love to go Australia and see the birds there, so different than what we have here in Canada

I've always loved the wild birds that some people consider pests. The ravens I see in my back yard are always alone or a pair. They are much bigger than the crows and their feathers are several shades darker, raven's feathers are ink black and lustrous. When a raven shows up at the feeder, all the other birds leave, even the crows and blue jays.

The grackles are small and travel in flocks. They hang out in parking lots and most show no fear of people. I actually saw a grackle with a styrofoam fast food box in his beak. Very clever birds.

I've seen two bald eagles near the Brazos river and one small falcon, far away from populated areas. Red tail hawks are a common sight. A couple of them have a nest in a tree across from my mom's house. We watch them hunt in the evenings, very graceful predators.

I would so love to visit Australia and see the cockatoos in their native home.

GREAT Thread idea Julie!

We have them in PA, people mistake them for crows, They are HUGE, we see them eating road kill in groups of 3 or 4 all the time

Not anymore, they have made a MAJOR rebound !! from what I read its mostly because of less pesticides

We even have them in PA

They really are majestic, Like Allee said the I feathers are ink black they are husky birds, very muscular. They do own their space, I saw the pair we have outside harass an owl from his perch. They stay far away from humans but I wouldn't call the fearful, just smart. They do dunk their food in our birdbath.
