I just wanted to share a couple pics of the birdie families we gave at work. :)

First is a family of thick-knees. We also call them curlews. There us five in thus particular little family. The parents have not had all that much luck with successful raising of their babies. However in the last 3 1/2 years that I have been there, they have gotten better.

I will try to get some more pics of them. They were so not happy with me trying to get some pics.

Second family is a magpie family. I have never seen so many magpies on one location. There must on been about 20 or 30. They were frolicking around on the sports field we have at work.

Our third family, is the plover family. I could not get a pic of them as there babies are now fully fledged and are out on their own, however mum and dad are still very protective.

I will see if I can get some pics next week.

@Allee: they are simply gorgeous to watch. The curlews especially. They have the scariest call known. And the way they hiss and cry, it is fantastic that we can go to work and be so close to where they live.

Wow! I've never seen a Stone Curlew in the flesh! You ARE lucky! Lots of Magpies and Plovers down here, though. We have a bike track that goes past our back yard and it's such fun watching the cyclists being strafed by the Maggies every spring! :D :D :D

Trish there are 5 curlews in their little family. There is also another family of 3 that live on the other side of the Defence base. They hang out under the building 2 away from ours. They also quite often sit under our building as well.

Our plover mum and dad are breeding machines. They only just get one lot out of the nest and all grown up and then bam their sitting on eggs again. I think we have seen probably 6-7 hatches now, in the 3 years we have been at the base. They usually start off with 4 out 4 that hatch but usually only end up with 2 or 3 that survive.

It is so cool Terry. I love to sit on the stairs and just watch them. The curlews are just fascinating. The way they stalk around is so cool and the noises that they make. As Trish pointed out they are stone curlews. See if you can find their noises on google. Some of them are so creepy.

We have heaps of magpies and a tonne of mynahs! We also get plovers, pukekos, mallards and paradise ducks, starlings, Skylark, fantails, hawks (♡) and the odd falcon and Sulphur cockatoo. My faves are definitely the Hawks though! And we have a very cool little disabled starling who hangs out =)
