What's the weirdest bird dream you've had?

So this morning as I was half-awake, half-sleeping, I dreamt Avery laid an egg!

! And she kept laying them until I was underneath a giant MOUNTAIN of eggs while she sat on too all proud of herself. I was so scared that I had to candle ALL of them in my dream... Talk about tedious.

I was so concerned about it that when I woke up I had to go rummage through her cage and make sure there were no surprises left for me. I have no idea what even brought it about - thank goodness it wasn't some kind of future predicting dream!

So what's the weirdest dream you've ever had about your birds? I want to feel better about my ridiculous random dreams, haha!

I once had a birdie Jedi mind control dream... where they could read my thoughts, and responded to what I was thinking. In my dream I could take them out flying and then "think" them to come back to me...

Hahaha! That would be phenomenal if birds could read our minds and actually respond to them. It would make training so much easier...

When I find myself under a lot of stress for a long time there are certain dream that come back - the worst one always involves coming home from a trip to find that my family has neglected my birds and added to my flock. I find birds birds and more birds, too many in a cage, in cages they can get out of, under furniture, etc, no food, no water, poop everywhere, dead birds, and dying birds. I am always frantically trying to contain them and get them to the vet all the while yelling at my family how could they let this happen? Trying to get food and water into the cages before the birds die, but being overwhelmed by the feces. I think this is because I have a lot of birds, and I fear that I am the only one who can properly care for them. I have had bad birdy-sitter experiences in the past but never that bad, and honestly my family is fantastic with my birds and I would never have to worry leaving them in charge. Like I said, it is stress related. I always wake up sobbing from this one.

I had a crazy bird dream last night too!

In my dream, I had an Alexandrine and a Timneh Grey. And the Grey had gotten into the Alex's cage, and was biting his/her feet! So I did my best to separate them and then figure out where the Grey came from. (The Alex had a cage, the Grey did not.) and then I woke up.

I love Timneh Grey's though.

@SilverSage I've had my fair share of bird-nightmares. It really is awful. Such a sensitive thing to dream about so vividly, you're not the only one who's waken up in a puddle of tears fretting over your dear fids, I assure you that.

Thanks Sterling. My mom has similar dreams - in her dreams she is always trying to get a large number of children to safety. She has 7 kids and does foster care, and I think my birds are the closest thing I have to kids.

It's funny you should bring this up. The other night I had a dream that Zoe, our BTM, walked over to me and I went to pick her up by her beak (which she does not like BTW) looked away and a GW clamped down on my arm and I started yelling for my partner to come save me from this unknown GW.

I had a random dream recently involving a bird bite also, I just can't remember what kind of bird it was. Probably some random mac.

First- I *PROMISE* I am not insane (well not totally

). I had several extremely vivid reoccurring nightmares when I was a kid (probably due to all the meds I was always on), and one involved being reduced to the size of a sunflower seed and running from this giant, all-black parrot with glowing red eyes. This dream started when I was around 4/5 and I had it dozens of times for years.

As I would run out of this "bank" (like a finical institution bank) that was sinking into the sand with the twilight-zone spiraling sky and money-green tint to everything, the bird would keep trying to grab me and out of nowhere, my mother-turned-lobster monster would begin battling the giant parrot as I stood paralyzed with fear. Then, the parrot would grab my head and pick me up before my mother/lobster monster would grab me with her lobster-claws and right before I got ripped apart, I would wake up. Did I mention I was (and still am) something of an insomniac as a child because this is what filled my head when I went to sleep?

I always find when I'm stressed I have horrendous dreams like that, too. I don't know how many times I've dreamt of coming home to my birds being dead, or having flown away, or being stolen... it's actually ridiculous how stress induces terrible dreams

Oh my! April, that is HILARIOUS, despite being absolutely terrifying and traumatizing for a child. Now that it's all said and done, I have to admit I burst out laughing at your wonderful descriptions!

Sometimes I have paranoid dreams where I take the birds outside in their cages, but I forget to close the doors and they escape, and taunt me from the trees.

Hmm… I just realized I've never seen my birds in my dreams (and I usually remember my dreams very well, some of them for years)

I saw myself a few times flying using my hands like wings, but I didn't think of myself as a bird. It was a great experience in the dream - I wish it was real.

I have flying dreams all the time, but some of those are actually repressed memories...

It's a funny thing. When you experience things that kind of overload the senses, it gets recorded in the subconscious mind. It's like PTSD, only without the trauma. HAPPY memories...

Some of those jumps still come back to me in the dream. Little details, that I didn't remember at the time it happened... because stuff was just happening so fast, and you were so focused at the time it was happening. It comes back at night, and it's so clear, and in slow mo in my dreams...

I used to get them when I was surfing too, very vivid dreams with the sights, and sounds and sensations. Especially the sounds of waves exploding, the woosh-hiss sound a good cutback makes... (although there was a 6 month period after my little near drowining incident at Mav's where it really WAS PTSD... Discovered I wasn't good enough to be out there - THE HARD WAY! TOOK A TRIP THROUGH THE BONEYARDS! WOKE UP SCREAMING IN A COLD SWEAT FOR SIX MONTHS AFTER THAT ONE! NEVER WENT BACK...)

A few years back, I was fortunate enough to be flying at skydive Hollister, when there were about 8 hawks up playing in the thermals... and they let us swoop and dive with them. I still remember it vividly... and it still comes back to me in my dreams.

I've had bird dreams from time to time, but none that I remember well enough to tell you about unfortunately. That's why I didn't post before. I tried and tried to think, but nope, don't remember enough detail that I can even put into words.

I do however, remember just a bit of a recurring nightmare I used to have as a very young child. Something about being outdoors under a night sky, an old creepy man or a wizard type maybe (?) had a large black bird (I now realize it was a Raven) that he was flying around and around high in a wide circle like it was attached to a string (leash or something). That in itself I suppose wasn't scary, but it was dark and had a "Halloween" or "gothic" type of feel to it and I remember it always spooked me. Maybe a little subconscious root to my fascination with Ravens?

When I was in my 20's I had a dream that I was a bright red Cardinal. Here comes the bad part: I was sitting in a pine tree and was shot in the head. I slammed into the ground and died. Death was a endless black hole. I awoke in a sweat. I never had that dream again but I never forgot it.

Goodness that's creepy

I can't say I've ever had a dream where I've died... one time I dreamt I was fighting in a zombie apocalypse, accidentally fell off a cliff ledge trying to get a spoon weapon from the back of our armoured weaponry vehicles (who parks vehicles beside a cliff anyways?). I kept getting scared that I'd fall into a forest of zombies, but I just kept falling and falling and watching the zombies but never came in contact with them. Apparently my subconscious likes to keep me safe?

A while ago I had a bad dream - I was a passenger on a moving train, stuck on a carriage with some shady people and I felt trapped and uneasy. Then at some stage in the dream, I realized that I had Birdy on my shoulder protecting me from anything bad, almost like he was the center of safety bubble of which I was inside.

As soon as I woke up that morning, I looked over to Birdy's cage and there he was, giving me that all knowing look and a wink...
