Over the summer, I was getting hives that would not go away (and were driving me nuts, not to mention embarrassing) and having some other problems. I eventually worked out that dairy was the culprit. Within 3 days of giving it up, the hives had started to heal (and are now totally gone). I've been dairy-free for 2 weeks now. I feel GREAT! Like, literally better than I have in I don't know how long:D I'm even BREATHING better. Unreal that a food intolerance/allergy could pop out of nowhere and cause such symptoms:20: And so many foods contain dairy, I've just been eating rice and fruits/veggies. Even though I make most meals from scratch and tried to only buy organic, I think it's time to reexamine my whole diet.

I think I'm going to try to make raw foods the majority of my diet with just some plain grains and beans as the only cooked foods, and see if I can keep this good-feeling going! I have felt SO crappy for so long, I don't know if I've had this much energy since I was a little little kid. I've been dragging tired for longer than I an remember:confused: Maybe I understand better why Kiwi is always bouncing off the walls;) It's all that fruit he eats! Perhaps the tables have turned, and I will start pilfering HIS food instead of the other way around:20:

Anyways, sorry for this super random post, I just wanted to share because everyone else (husband, family) sighed or rolled their eyes at me when I shared my excitement (which I'm sure some of you are probably doing too):31:

So glad it's gone! I've holy experienced hives once, I can't imagine what you had to go through.
Mmmm organic foods sound so good right now I might have to stop off at Foodland to buy fruits myself

You know what they say - owners are like their pets! (Referring to Kiwi bouncing off the walls, I'm on mobile so it's harder to reply for me).

Hoping all goes well with your new diet, I should try it too sometime (recipes are needed LOL)!

Great to hear. I agree! I love veggies and I eat a lot of the ones that agree with me.

Hoping all goes well with your new diet, I should try it too sometime (recipes are needed LOL)!

So here's a good recipe I made up and tested out yesterday that I'll be adding to my collection. It yields a very tasty juice and a highly useful pulp for flavoring/coloring non-meat "beef" alternatives (I'll be trying more uses for the pulp too). My hubby said the burgers were a really good alternative to actual burgers, though he was too chicken to try the juice;) These do have onion and a lot of it, thus are NOT parrot friendly:

For Juice and Pulp:

1/2 cup water
1/2 medium red onion
1 1/2 cup red cabbage
1 cup spinach leaves
1 cup romaine
3 roma tomatoes
3 stalks celery
3-4tbsp apple cider vinegar
Juice of 1 lemon

I ran these through my blender until smooth, then strained through a strainer to separate. Be sure to use a silicone spatula to really push all the juice from the pulp, and get it as dry as possible. Transfer pulp to a bowl (you will have a little over a cup). You can chill and drink the juice (it really wasn't that bad, a little like v8).

For the "burgers" (makes 3 large patties or 4 small ones)

Pulp from above
1 cup cooking oats
2 tbsp milled flax
1/3cup water
Salt and Pepper to taste

1. In a butter warmer or small saucepan combine the flax and water. On a medium heat, stir constantly until they have formed a egg-yolk LIKE texture (this is a vegan egg replacer, you could also just use 2 eggs the mix:)).

2. Add cooking oats, flax egg replacer and S+P to pulp mix. Stir until well mixed.

4. They can be cooked on the stovetop like regular hamburgers or in the over in you are concerned about the fat from oil (though I used 2 tbsp safflower oil in a 11" pan on medium heat and they did not stick bad when I flipped them or removed them. I use a basting brush to spread oil evenly in my pan so I can use less).

I served them on a sprouted grain bun with lemon-lime avocado spread and fresh lettuce and tomatoes. You could serve them in any way you like burger though:)
