I was happy to finally get around to getting a new scale since the last $20 kitchen scale from Target broke down.

The new one was also from Target, another kitchen scale, but $30 this time LOL! Still inexpensive compared to ones sold as veterinary scales. This one looks a little better quality than my last one. Round 7 or 8" stainless platform.

Now I am wondering how accurate it is in grams... The reason I question it is that my birds were weighed anywhere from a couple months ago, to Griffin less than a week ago. This scale made everyone surprisingly heavier than expected. This scale put everyone in a normal weight for their species, when all my guys are a bit on the small framed side. I mean it wasn't SO off that it was obviously wrong, but hmm... I wish I had calibration weights to test it.

Anyone use a scale made for the kitchen (which has a gram setting)? What do you think about your scale and the accuracy? Maybe the vets had scales which weren't 100% accurate.

I know what's more important is a trend in the varying weight gain or loss depending on the day or time of day, not necessarily the exact number. Still I'd like to know if it's accurate!

I don't have any input on this I bought mine from My Safe Bird Store and it is GARBAGE! The perch came loose a month after I bought it and there is no way to tighten it grrrrr the birds don't really care to get on a perch that wobbles! I need to figure out a way to fix it maybe super glue around the wooden perch part.

That's too bad Laura, those ones from MSBS weren't cheap if it's the same one I saw. I think super glue would do the trick :).

We've used the same postal scale from office depot for years. It has both ounces and grams. We use it for the birds and for measuring our own personal food. Karen said she paid $20 all those years ago before me (we've been together 15) years. It's not exactly the same as the vet, but it's pretty close.

We bought one for around $20 from Walmart that we use for weighing the Angora Fiber, that's been very accurate, it has a gram, oz and lb setting. We're really thrilled with ours!

I'll be curious to weigh the boys again in the next day or so. It said Raven was 245g, which is about average for a Bronze Winged Pionus male. He's almost 1 1/2 years. I always thought he was small, but maybe he is just now starting to fill out? They tend to be full weight by 2 years or so, so maybe he'll be a big boy :)

That was the night we brought her home.

He's 4 months younger than Zoe and 3 months younger than the sennies. Zoe has put on some weight since that pic was taken. I believe she's up to 650, so maybe he's just growing up.

I got mine on ebay. It is a food scale. I made a little PVC perch and I am happy with it.

Karen, thanks for the laugh...I needed it! LOL

I guess you could check the accuracy by weighing a known weight. maybe weigh an ounce of H20, pound of butter, etc.

Yes! *lightbulb turns on* Thanks for pointing out the obvious Captain ;). I was thinking scale calibration weights, but don't have any of those lol.
