We just moved to a different house, with 70+ birds...and what an adventure that was! The day we had to move them started with a whiteout blizzard, with winds blowing 70+ MPH.We used a Uhaul for the cages, and luckily my friends who own a rescue came and helped us move the birds. Many of my birds are finches, and that was a lot of fun catching them to put them in the carriers.
We got to the new house, and had been able to move most of the large cages out of the old house without taking them apart. So we get to the new house and they won't fit through the front door:( All the big cages needed to be taken apart in the truck to get inside.
To get the one that does not come apart in the birdroom door, we had to take down the doorframe and bash in the sheet rock behind it to make it fit. It ended up taking us around 10 hours to get everyone moved and back into their cages.
I am hoping I NEVER have to do this again.
The good news is that everyone is settling in nicely, and I now have 3 bird rooms instead of 5:)

Terry, I'm glad it's all over and done with now. :) I know you are, too.

I feel you there....I once moved 100+ to a different state and it was not fun.....glad everything is settling down and everyone was safe!

PFFT.... I've got you beat BIG time, Michael!

I moved to another CONTINENT with a husband, 2 small children, 2 dogs, a bird, AND over 200 illegal immigrants once.

Unfortunately, no, luckily, the vast majority of the illegal immigrants didn't survive their time on sea.

They were fleas that tried to hitch a ride on our furniture. :09: :21:

Terry, I'm glad everyone is safe in their new dwelling. Are you enjoying three bird rooms instead of five? And your new neighborhood?

Michael, Wow! That's a lot of birds, my friend, no matter what size!

Wendy, what an amazing journey, even with a single bird. I'm glad your furniture stowaways didn't survive the trip.

I feel for you. I moved 14 hrs away with 60 parrots mostly Amazon's. I had emergency evacuation cages for each bird and rented a van for them. The cages i transported in a moving truck and my boat trailer. Quite the caravan i assure you.

Holy smokes guys! How did you end up with so many birds??? How do you handle them all-the cleaning and feeding???

Hats off to you, that's amazing. I don't think I could handle that on my own.

I wish I could get involved with a rescue, there are none anywhere near me :( That way I could love all the birds I wanted without running my husband out of the house. I was telling him yesterday how cool it would be to get a rehomed or rescued goffins and he looked pained. Probably just worried it means another construction project for him, lol. The last enclosure was a major pain in the butt!

I'm glad all went well. I'm also curious as to the number of birds. Do you breed or run a rescue?

:) :) please see thread about mbs progression and symptoms :) :) :). Just kidding.
