It would be SO easy to be a bad person sometimes...

I ordered a silver necklace on ebay and (by accident, I'm sure) the seller sent me 2 necklaces (the one I ordered and another one that looked really similar). The second one is real gold and diamonds (and beyond gorgeous, and worth a whole lot more than the 50 bucks I paid for the silver one!). I'm sure they would never know what happened to it if I did keep it, but my conscience just won't let me do something like that. I had to email them and let them know they sent me a second one by mistake. I, personally, do believe in "karma" in the sense that when you always *try* to do the right thing and be a good person, that positive energy comes back to you in a time of need. Still, it's SO hard sometimes to do the right thing, especially when it's sparkling on your coffee table looking beautiful:31:

You'll feel good after returning it anyways, and knowing you made someone relieved :)! Yeah, many people out there I could see keeping it.

Ya. I'm sure when they see my message they'll be glad they found what happened to it. I think it's kind of a big "company" (they had thousands of listings), but still isn't right of me to keep. What a mistake to make though!

Good for you! I am always trying to explain to the students at my low income school that just because you found it does not make it "yours" and that someone out there is missing it... It's a lesson that they don't learn at home, but I believe very strongly in it. You can be proud of being the kind of person who does the right thing!

There is no way I could keep that thing either - isn't that normal for most people? You can just wear that necklace in the meanwhile before you send it back to them. :)

So am I a bad person for going in to Home Depot tonight... I was looking for large yard trash bags to put up my horse blankets til next season, and I found one box of clear in the huge stack, the rest were black. When I went to the self checkout and scanned it it came up as .01 :53::54:

I stood there and looked around, shocked... Then inserted my penny. Received my receipt and walked out...:54: thinking the whole time the alarm would go off at the door... But it didn't.

I would note that a small store I would absolutely say something, and if given incorrect change I always return the amount, I'm generally an honest person. BUT... Home Depot?!?!

As someone who has sold on ebay for years and also worked in retail, TRUST ME when I say, people will do ANYTHING to lie, cheat and steal to get something for nothing. A "free" diamond necklace arrives on their doorstep unexpectedly? They wouldn't think twice before taking it down to the pawn shop.

Good for you, April! I'm very much the same way. So is my mother. One time my mom and dad went out for supper, and my mom went to the bathroom. When she came back, she saw the bill fold on the table and assumed my dad paid. So she went out to the car, they drove away, and he started cackling about the free lobster dinner. She got SO mad that she made him turn around, pay the waiter, and give a $50 tip for the trouble they caused (which was a decent amount back when they first started dating!).

I know one time, Doublete, I was buying organic pine nuts (ugh, so expensive), and I was going through the self check out because I only had a few other veggies and fruits. I had a decent bag of them, I weighed and it would've cost me $15. But for some reason the UPC rung up as bread crumbs! I know I wrote down the right number and I double checked, but nope. Walked away paying $1.75 for them.

When I was a teenager, I worked part time at a local theme park (Knott's) at a candy store. When no customers were around some of us employees would freely reach into the jars and eat the candy. I don't think they specifically told us not to, either that or maybe the boss said we could have a little, and we took "a little" to the next level lol.

One day... I worked the closing shift, and instead of putting the rest of the fudge away that didn't sell that day, I cut HUGE slabs of some different flavors and took it home. I guess in those days security didn't look into employees bags when they were leaving? I don't recall, but I got away with it. I wasn't even thinking anything was so wrong with it, so when I got home, I showed it to my parents  and asked if they wanted some!! They FREAKED out and were SO angry with me! I guess they "thought" they taught me manners and right and wrong, but I didn't even feel like I was "stealing". I did it absolutely innocently!! I think they made me take it back to work the next day (it was all wrapped up so it stayed clean). Haha, I'll never forget that.

I work in a restaurant and I'm very congnisant of the restaurants costs... My coworkers drink the expensive tea (and usually waste it), etc.. But I'm very good and always ask my manager if I can order food.. Maybe that's why they usually buy my food instead of making me pay 50% lol.

But paying a penny for my box of garbage bags really has me freaked out!
