As many of you know, I just *love* refinishing furniture (yes, it's kind of an odd 'hobby'):54:. Our poor dining table was starting to look pretty worn out, so it was my first project of the season When we bought it years ago, it was painted a horrid shade of grape purple and had a cracked/chipped up tile top. We immediately painted it and busted out all the tiles to put glass in the top instead. I decided to re-tile the top and take it down to the bare wood. I cannot describe the mess, physical pain (from bending and scraping/sanding) and despair of getting the paint off those turned legs. Even more 'unexpected' the awful purple paint it was when we first got it was over some kind of green paint that wouldn't come off with stripper:52: I had to scrape and sand it off. FINALLY, after 2 days of scraping, sanding and dealing with the gooey mess the stripper made, I got it down to bare wood. After staining and tiling it though, I have to say, the final result is worth it! And hubby said we can get new dining chairs, which I am over the moon about because ours are rather rickety. I'm thinking some of those galvanized metal ones, but I'm not in a particular rush.
This was my "inspiration". This is a $3,500.00 table. Turning a $5 thrift store table into something similar-ish seemed a rather far-fetched venture:
This was the table "before":
Annnnnndddddd.... the final result!
Not bad for never having tiled anything before
