Another bald eagle visit

We live in a spot that's right next to a major river, so we get to see allllllll sorts of wildlife- including the rare and majestic bald eagle!

Tonight I was standing outside chatting with my FIL when I caught movement in my peripheral vision and turned just in time to see a massive bird with a white head fly up into one of our trees. I think I almost gave my FIL a heart attack lol OMG!! There's a bald eagle up there!!!! [emoji33] and then another came.... OMMMMMGGG there's TWO!!

I took off faster than a jack rabbit with a fire under its butt to run and grab my camera-- thank goodness they stayed put!

Last summer we got pictures of two bald eagles- one was clearly a juvenile, and one of these appeared to be a very young adult who maybe just got his adult plumage -I'm not quite sure, but that's my assumption. He seemed quite unsure, uneasy, and stressed about his situation while the other (the mother I'm assuming) seemed calm and collected.

Wow what great shots Shirre!! Glad you were able to get the pics! Look at that head, so majestic. Looks just like it does in paintings :).

They look pretty big!

Phenomenal photos, Shirre!! :smile015: Gosh, they're a sight to behold, aren't they? :D

I'm fairly sure both of your Bald Eagles are adults. They don't develop their full color until they're sexually mature, which can take about 5 years. Immature ones have a black beak and a mixture of brown and white feathers. :)

What absolutely stunning birds! You are so lucky to have gotten the chance to see them, and get pictures. How long did they hang around?

Stunning photos!

The second one isn't a youngster if the head is fully white. Their heads start out dark and then by the 4th year it's mostly white with some dark flecks. Solid white head is an adult.

Great pics, Shirre! How lucky are you to have such sights in your backyard? (Well, unless you had any hopes of bringing your birds outside on a harness. Then not so much.)

Thank you for sharing these incredible shots!

They are amazing to see~ it was totally unexpected too since we usually see them first thing in the morning, and this was evening.

I guess I should have been more clear-- I know this is not a juvenile because of the white plumage, I meant "youngster" as one who possibly just got his adult plumage ....I'm of course not an expert on bald eagles, but my assumption of him being a very young adult was based on the way he was acting.
