So I officially started yesterday and I am not sure if anyone will be interested but once in a while I do a juice cleanse and I really do have some yummy juice recipes so I thought I would share some over the next 60 days on this thread.

The plan is to only have juices or smoothies and lots and lots of water over the next 60 days. I have actually done a 21 day water fast (only water for 21 days) so these are a walk in the park!

I have an Omega J8006 juicer and a Vitamix both of which I would highly recommend to anyone looking at getting into this sort of thing in any serious manner.

My favorite go-to juice is the following I will get a pic of that one later, the color on that one isn't greatly appealing but the taste is wonderful!

2-3 apples depending on size
4-5 carrots
3-4 celery
1 whole peeled lemon
one inch or so piece of fresh ginger
4 to 5 big leaves of kale any variety

While this seems like a LOT once it goes through the juicer it becomes a glass full.

The following recipe and pic is the one I had for both breakfast and lunch today really good and very pretty!
2 large oranges
5 carrots = Yummy!!

I need to go on a cleanse... However, I do it a little differently. I eat all my fruit and juice all my veggies. It works for me.

OMG, Laura!! I know you've done it before, but I'd so totally fall out of my socks if I only 'drank' that with the workouts I do. I have to have my protein. :54:

No there won't be any heavy duty work-outs on this. I have a punching bag and a rower at home that I will do lightly. Some yoga and walking and that is about it. Sometimes on this long of a juice you start craving something to chew so in that case every once in a while (once a week or so) I will have a few raw soaked almonds or pecans, that typically does the trick without me straying too far off course.:D

You can EAT raw foods, too, right, if you want to actually chew on something???

I think I'll try this on a weekend, when I don't do the gym. :D I've made that specific recipe before, after you had given it to me, and I must admit, it was DELICIOUS!!!

Of course eating raw along with juicing is fine. I just find I do better staying on track especially if it's a long planned juice cleanse if I just do the juices.

That's so great Laura! 60 days is a long time, but I bet your body will thank you at the end. Curious- do you do your fasts on restricted caloric intake or do you get all your calories through juice? I've been wanting to try a fast ever since going raw, but am kind of scared of what happens when I start getting hungry. I'm one of those people who gets really nauseated and faint when I get hungry:( Have been debating a juice fast for a while since your still getting some calories:)

I get all my calories through juicing or smoothies, lots of water and some sunshine daily seems to help. Along with body brushing and naps if I feel I need one. I really listen to what my body tells me on these cleanses. I don't worry about too many calories if I get hungry between juices I make another smaller one or drink more water.

The water fast is much harder and something I think if someone is interested in should be worked up to such as a few 3 to 5 day and then a longer 10 day which is what I did over many years before I took on the 21 days which was incredible by the way. Unfortunately with shorter fasts you don't get to that point where you really don't want to eat and are not hungry. That kicks in for different people at different times but for me it is around the 6-7 day mark. By day 14 I was grocery shopping and cooking full meals for my husband with no desire to eat. You lose about a pound a day but any kind of cleanse or fast should not really be done with weight loss in mind but more for the health benefits. One of my sisters who only eats raw would love to do a water fast however she is just too tiny and doesn't have the body fat to do one for any length of time. She is in cancer remission so she needs to be careful with how much of her total body mass that she loses.

The hardest thing I ever tried years ago was a vow of total silence. I can go without eating but no talking for 7 days was AWFUL!!!!! :p

What is body brushing?

I think since I already do at least 2 meals a day of either juice or smoothie (I try to get some fats/whole leafy greens/fruits in daily too) I would be looking at all liquid with none of the fiber. Have you ever tried a fast like that? I'm definitely not looking to loose weight(actually finally achieved a healthy weight after going raw after many years of being drastically underweight and unable to gain weight on cooked) though I understand that is an inevitable result of fasting (hopefully though I'd put it back on quickly again).

Now a 21 day water fast is super impressive. I'm not sure if I could mentally handle that as I really do love food. Have you only done the one 21 day fast? That just sounds really difficult and like the beginning would be horribly unpleasant. Do you still do the shorter ones? As for a vow of silence, that would definitely not work. Who would tell :green: he was a pretty boy 1000X a day:p Curious, did you make it the 7 days? (If you don't mind sharing) what was your motivation to take a vow of silence? Just curious:) I'm very interested!

Can we just safely assume all you men are thinking the exact same thing here:20: I know what your thinking is probably the first thing that would come out of my husbands mouth if I told him I was taking a vow of silence:09:

As opposed to when you are giving us the silent treatment?! :p

I've always wondered about that one myself...

My ex-wife used to give me the silent treatment, and she could nurse a grudge, and really keep it going...

As the week went on, she only got madder and madder...

And what I wondered was this, was she mad that I had no idea WHY she was mad... ?

OR was she really mad because she had to remain silent in order for it to be effective, and it was killing her?! :D

I'm so sorry you had an immature ex wife. The "silent treatment" (IMO) is what 4 year olds do because they are incapable of expressing their feelings any other way. Now, I may get a little carried away rattling on about subjects my husband doesn't care about from time to time;) but when he makes me mad, I'll definitely know what he did wrong in no uncertain terms right away lol:54: No point in dragging a argument or difference in opinion out IMO! Get it resolved and move on!

What?! Do you have to do that now?!
Couldn't you wait until football season starts?!

You mean soccer season right:rolleyes:? What is it with men anyways and their sports and communicating through grunts, hand gestures and the occasional single word for months on end:confused:

Body brushing is using a brush on your dry skin before getting in the shower. There are YouTube vids on how to do it some go a little too far with you have to do it this way but the idea is to really exfoliate and get your skin breathing and more able to release toxins while you are fasting or cleansing.

Cleanses or fasts to me are more about giving your body a break. It takes a lot of energy to digest food, if a person does water fasts or juice cleanses once in a while it gives the body time to repair damaged cells, remove toxins and generally heal itself. So whatever works for you is best.

The water fasts I did many small ones over a few years time before I ever worked up to the 21 days. I still do the smaller ones. It is on my bucket list to do 40 days and was going to do it on the 21 day one but husband was concerned over all the weight I had lost. You do gain most of it back once you go back to eating solids so it's not a huge deal. The most critical thing about a water fast is how you work into it for example you don't eat pizza and then the next day decide to fast a person should be eating raw and healthy for weeks before a fast and breaking it must be done with even more care.

The vow of silence was during a time when I was very hurt by someone I cared about greatly. (I did make it the 7 days though there were many times I thought I wouldn't be able to.) She was a dear friend who was making life threatening mistakes. I being the type of person who really wants to help felt lost and I really needed to center myself. We CANNOT make someone listen even when we love them and have their best interest at heart and I needed to remind myself of that. I needed to take my ego out of the fact that she wouldn't hear me and it worked for me. I didn't have any birds at the time only my dog and husband, that was hard enough, I know I couldn't have done it with the birds. By the way my husband said he GREATLY missed the sound of my voice and laughter. No..I will never try that one again.:p

I'm sorry, I thought you lived in North America... that would be the rest of the world. Soccer season, in North America, wouldn't that would be the season everyone turns off the TV and goes outside and BBQ'S waiting for football season to start again?!

That kinda depends on who's talking, and what you're talking about... some conversations induce more grunting than others...

You seem to think men form opinions about certain things, where none actually exist. Expressing the wrong opinion will likely (a) reveal our total ignorance on the subject, or (b) result in a prolonged conversation about something we know nothing about.

So, rather than expressing the opinion, "I don't care." which usually does not come out well, or end well... we attempt to formulate an opinion, on the spot, that will not get us in trouble. And since we don't know, we don't know which answer will get us into trouble. Cuz it may be one of those trick questions...

["Does this dress make me look fat?!" Is a trick question, but we ALL know the right answer to those kinds of trick questions.]

But since we know NOTHING all that comes out are ERRR... UUGG... GRUNT... INAUDIBLE... NONSENSICAL... They we are supposed to extrapolate on those non-existent opinions, where we'd rather just not be talking at the moment...

Insert the classic line from Blazing Saddles here: "I DON'T KNOW. MONGO ONLY PAWN IN GAME OF LIFE..."

"AND [insert name here] JUST MADE THE PLAY OF THE SEASON! I DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT I JUST SAW..." [DANG! MISSED IT!]

"Life threatening mistakes..."

There are a certain amount of people out there who are prone to self destruction. It is helpful to quietly point out how self destructive the behavior is... but beyond that...

If they are not ready to get help, they are not going to listen.

That falls under the heading of "never try to teach a pig to sing..."

In the crowd I hung out with, "life threatening mistakes" were treated as somewhat of a "lifestyle choice." Like heavy, drinking and night base jumping... for example. (Or paddling out at Maverick's just to prove to my buddies that I wouldn't die! Almost guessed wrong that time!)

Did your friend pull out of her downward spiral in time?!

Or were you forced to walk away before you got sucked into the drama vortex... ?!

I am sad to say I had to walk away. She had very bad taste in men and the one that was current during all this was h-e double hockey sticks bent on killing her. It was like watching someone you love play Russian roulette behind unbreakable glass. I just couldn't do it anymore and I was afraid if I got that call I would go after him. I am an awesome shot.
