Do you believe in Ghosts?

My Shepard mix dog passed away Monday night of cancer. He was 14 years old and he did live a long life but I was very upset about it even though I know that it was his time to go to the bridge. I told him before he passed to come back and visit me if he was able.

Yesterday I took two photos of the area where he would sleep, we also recently hung up some photos of him in remberence.

The first photo I took looks like my deceased dog in the mirror, look toward the bottom right. At the same this image appeared, what looks like orbs are on his head in the bottom photograph, the one where he is laying down. If you have an iPad you expand the photo with your hand to see what looks like orbs. I took a photo of the same collection of photos a minute later and the orbs were gone, so was the image in the mirror.

Maybe it's wishful thinking, I don't know but I personally believe all animals have souls from the very smallest to the largest.

RIP: Grandpa (my Shepard mix dog)

I am very sorry for your loss, but i dont see anything in your picture. I dont believe in ghosts or spirits.

When my dog died what happened was that he got out of the yard and i went looking for him. I found him the next morning in a driveway of a for sale house. He had been dead for a few hours already. As soon as i jumped out of the car to go to him my fiance parked the car and came to tear me away. My fiance also prepped him for our burial. I never got a good look at him, but deep down i knew it was him. The reason im telling this story is because despite knowing that i had found him dead, i found myself checking the front porch every morning to see if he had come home. I had managed to convinced myself that i had buried the wrong dog and that my friend would find his way back to me. This went on for weeks.

Death is hard to deal with, but hoping you see him again and looking for him everywhere only delays the grieving process. The only way to deal with it is from head on, just feel it. Dont try to convince yourself that he is still around somehow, because it hurts worse in the long run. Again I am very sorry for your loss.

I disagree there.
The spirit or soul of your dog will remain with you as long as you NEED him.

I've lost many animals and I don't necessarily believe in ghosts but the Native American way of thinking I do. There is a piece of the animal everywhere.

I'm so, so sorry for your loss. My precious German Shepherd is 14 as well ....and declining...so I totally feel your pain. As for ghosts...I'd like to think of my animals in the spirit world around me ...just like the people in my life who are no longer physically here...

I am so sorry for your loss:( It is always hard to loose an animal companion. I think your memorial is lovely, it always helps to see those photos of the good times.

Personally, I do not believe in ghosts. That would require believing in consciousness after death (or an "afterlife"), which I also don't. I do think that on some level, we are all connected as living beings though, and in that, we remain connected on some level after death to our loved ones, human or animal. And because I cannot really phrase it better (and find it very comforting personally):

I've had family members pass but my dog seems to have hit me harder. I find myself obsessively wanting another Shepard mix right down to the exact mix part of which I don't even know what that is. I know I'll never find another dog exactly like him, all animals just like people are individuals and have their own unique personality.

Thank you for so much for your replies and kind words :)

I found myself wanting another dog just like mine as well. He was a small black long haired terrier mutt. I ended up getting a white female basset hound a few months later. So complete opposites! And I'm very glad now because it would be hard to be reminded every day. My basset isn't my terrior, she didn't replace him. No dog could have, I'm glad I can view her as herself. If she looked like me terrior I think I would compare her to him.

I know, exactly. I would probably just compare them and the poor dog would never be able to live up to my expectations of being the exact clone of the other one. I do like shepards, so I may look for a purebred German Shepard, I'm really not sure.

That sounds like a good idea. No rush, take your time to mourn. It will also give you time to find the right dog that needs you and fits into your family.
