SO fed up with phones!

My husband and family have been pestering me for a while now to get a different phone/carrier because of really bad reception. Well, I finally went over to Best Buy this morning to do that. I should have just bought the phone and brought it home and done the activation myself. Now I have 2 phones (my old and new one) and NEITHER works The girl at BB didn't have a clue what she was doing, said it was "ready to use" and I *stupidly* just trusted that. Got home went to use it, it does NOT work. Go on the carriers website, have a chat with a service rep and she screwed me up 1000X worse by giving me a second activation code, canceling my old number then giving me no other option (seeing as I no longer have a working phone) until my husband gets home to call customer service (which I imagine will be just as big of a PITA as their online support).

I am SO fed up with phones. If I wasn't sure there was toxic stuff in them, I'd give both to Kiwi to chew up and tell people "available by email only" from now on. And everyone wonders *why* I don't care to replace them every 6 months nor be attached to mine 24/7. Just problems, problems and more problems.

I have a really old one and of course Verizon wants me to up grade but I'm not going to until I have to. It works. It makes calls and I can text and get both. But I bet Kiwi would love to have his way with a cell phone.

Well, he is 16 going on 17 and hasn't had a phone yet. He's probably sneak around and call some of the beautiful lady blue fronts on the forum with it:54:

I should have just told everyone to stuff it about the old phone. It didn't get great reception at home, but at least it worked! Thats a whole lot better than 2 non-working phones and the inevitable frustration of going back to the store to get the runaround to call tmobile who can't help either

So has this been resolved yet? Do you have a working phone now? I hope so! What a pain that sounds like.

I have Verizon and have had it since the beginning of the company. They've always had the best cellular coverage. I made the change a month ago FROM an iPhone 5 TO a Motorola Droid Turbo. I hate it. I used to love the iPhone then started getting disillusioned by the more recent operating system upgrades. Turns out my iPhone complaints are nothing compared to the complaints I have with this "thing" I have now .

I have to go to the store today to let them figure it out. I have had Verizon for years, but I got really spotty reception where I am, so I've been needing to switch carriers (husband doesn't have Verizon and doesn't have the same reception issues). I have never had the nicer phones, but that's terrible to upgrade to something that should be better and have a bunch of issues with it

Sounds like you've got terrible technicians in your area. Hopefully the store can resolve it quickly for you. I've activated 2 to 4 phones a year with no problem. It's not rocket science, so it's sad that two people messed you up.

I always had Android phones until this year and got an iPhone. I've had a lot more problems with it than the Android phones, but the battery life is better and frankly. After having a smart phone I can't imagine going without.

Hope they get things resolved for you quickly!

Thanks. I should have just bought it and activated it myself at home (I do prepaid phones, so you can set it up online). I guess I will never trust the Best Buy people to set a phone again!

I have an iphone and have since the day they came out, not one problem one, save when we moved to the "forest." Reception here is wonky, too. We got an ATT-approved antenna on top of our house. Now, I have full bars in all parts of my house, which is great since I work from home and need my coworkers and boss to be able to get in touch with me reliably. I know you live in an apartment, so the antenna might not be an option for you, but you could mention it to your landlords and maybe they would consider it for your complex. If you're having trouble, maybe everyone else is, too.

So my husband ended up FINALLY getting the phone working. Ugh, what a mess. But now that it's working at least it seems to be a halfway decent phone that didn't cost an arm and a leg. It gets coverage where I am too.

I feel your pain. Mine is an iPhone 4S, a terribly (!) outdated smartphone that works intuitively and still carries a battery charge for a full day plus. Looks and performs as good as it did day-one!

Rant on:

No reason to upgrade, except for Apple and Verizon turning the screws of planned obsolescence. I can't upgrade to a newer "memory hot" operating system without purging lots of pics and apps. There is now an inhibition preventing me from updating apps... 23 are in need of updating. Tried to get a Canada plan this month, but they won't let me because the 4S runs 3G instead of the more modern 4G. I have long resisted texting, but so many friends/family send them (and expect a response) that I tried to get a plan... it is unavailable with my grandfathered plan!

I am ready to upgrade to a 6, but dread the transfer of my contacts, apps, pics, and music. Yeah, I know there's the "Cloud" thingy, but why can't they just tether both phones together and perform an electronic brain transplant??

Me too! I was a member of Airtouch Cellular which was purchased by Verizon. Very happy with Verizon's customer service.

I'm not a Luddite by any stretch, but love my 4S and don't look forward to a few steps backward with the Cult of Apple.

Will they let you exchange the Droid for an iPhone??

Scott haha I do remember Airtouch Cellular ! Remember LA Cellular? It might have only been a southern CA company. That's what I had, and they were purchased by Verizon also.

I'm just keeping it. It was a lot of hassle to do the change in the first place. With the Droid, you have to be much more careful about making sure the phone call is ended, and also shutting the screen off after so you don't accidentally pocket dial anyone. Ugh. iPhone is more user friendly and doesn't have that problem. Also this camera is nonsense. The programming for it was made by someone with no common sense if you ask me! It is not straightforward and easy to use like iPhone's camera, like you'd expect from a phone camera.

I sure do, Julie! No doubt it would be a pain to change back to a different platform. The only smartphone I know is Apple, and your cautionary tale makes me certain to continue with another!

I think it's more of what you're used to. I find the iPhone much less user friendly, but it's just a matter that I've always used Android. I'm sure the same applies to iPhone users.

You're either an "CrApple" person or not. Android is the only other real OS out there at the moment, other than iOS.

Personally, my biggest issues with CrAple is how everything of theirs is proprietary, and not friendly with non CrApple products. That, and they link EVERYTHING together. Google tries to do that, but at least there you don't HAVE to.

I don't think that's true either. I know lots who have used both. I'm happy with my iPhone, but I prefer Android. They each have areas they excel in. If you don't like iOS or Android you can always go Windows phone.

LOL!!!! I suspect techies and computer aficionados readily make peace with Android while those of us who regard computers as soulless appliances find easy accommodation with Apple. Personally I find the iPhone, at least the older 4S to be superbly intuitive, and care less about interopability.

Tom, CrApple rotfl . I also hated how the photos from the iPhone would automatically go into my iPad including photos that I had deleted. I'm sure there was a way to stop the linking if I really looked into it. Another crazily ridiculous thing about Apple is that in order to install a new iOS (which you have to do if you want the phone to keep working), is I had to UNINSTALL ALL THE APPS that were talking room (since each new iOS install took ALOT of space), then put the apps back when we was done with the install. When I didn't have WiFi it was even more inconvenient. I love my iPad though.

It was interesting when I first got into smart phones, I went to several phone stores and all the employees i talked to told me to get the iPhone not the android.
