There are many wildfires consuming Washington and Oregon right now ~the closest one to me is the Willamina Creek fire which is a 212+ acres and is only 15% contained.

Wildfire - Oregon Dept of Forestry: Willamina Creek Fire Evening Update - Friday, August 21, 2015 @ 9 p.m. PDT

This is about an hour's drive from me, and the winds shifted last night which is blowing all of the smoke NE into the Portland-metro area. The smoke gives me a headache and the sun is hazed....

If your a fellow PacNW resident and have issues with smoke, please stay inside and turn off any AC units that pull air in from outside. Also, keep your birds inside as smoke can be extremely detrimental to their sensitive respiratory systems.

Stay safe everyone!

And it's flooding at my house. 30inches above normal rain fall. Wettest August on record.

We are pretty smoked in here in Gresham Shirre. Smells like a camp fire even inside.

I'm keeping my air conditioner going even though the temps today are "normal" and we don't need it. It's one that vents outside, but draws air from inside and runs it through a filter, so I have it in the living room with the birds.

I'm also keeping a close watch on Zilla since I feel part of her respiratory issues last year when I got her were from the fires out where she was living last August (she probly thinks they followed her) Hard to believe Monday will be 11 months since she came to live with me....Time flies!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
This has been an abysmal year for fires regionally in the U.S. Stay safe, Shirre, and everyone else prone to one of Mother Nature's worse frights.

I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this Shirre, and Amanda. Also the flooding at your place Captain. Natural disasters are the worst! So very scary, and we're hearing of so many this year as Scott mentioned. Crossing fingers that everyone in these areas stays safe!

As horrific as these natural disasters are for people, we have a conscious understanding of cause and effect and are capable in some instances of mitigating the worst effects to include evacuations. Not so for the tens of millions of wild animals who have little more than their instincts and luck to avoid doom. :(
