This thread is NOT meant as any political agenda. It is merely meant to remember those people who lost their lives 14 years ago.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Thanks for posting the video tribute, Wendy. It captured the rawness and trauma of the event and turbulent dynamics of the immediate aftermath.

I lost 18 fellow employees that horrific day, one personally known. It forever changed key aspects of my work.... a constant reminder.

I, too, lost someone we were fortunate to have met. His name is Christopher Amoroso. He was Charlie's son. Charlie was my son's football coach.

I also remember everything about that day - as if it just happened yesterday. :(

Here is one of Christopher's tributes. :(

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
I was eating breakfast at my desk in San Francisco watching CNN when it happened.

I remember my jaw dropping open, and right about then my boss called, who didn't know what was happening, and was dumbfounded when I told him.

We were all pretty much depressed and in shock after that, and we were on the other side of the Country...

I remember that day and the days following. The skies were empty. I live in the DC Metro area and when the skies are empty it is just weird. It amazes me though as I was watching the video how much raw pain and anger came back.

My heartfelt thanks for those who were and are still heroes from that day.
Hugs for those who lost loved ones and friends on that day.
There aren't enough words...

God bless us all!

I flew one trip in the early 1990s with UAL 93 Capt. Jason Dahl. Hazy memories, but he was a great guy.

One of the most moving tributes was the movie United 93. Painstakingly realistic detail in nearly every aspect and produced with scrupulous attention to the smallest nuance. I had a deep and cathartic cry in the theater.

Taylor - Black capped Conure (RIP 3.14.15 - miss you every day little "Girlie")
I have to admit that it has been several years since I really sat down and took the time to remember the events of that day. I am doing so today and I am quite surprised by the strength of my emotions.

I lived and worked Manhattan at the time of the attacks, but was fortunate to not live or work near Ground Zero. I distinctly recall walking home with a colleague from my office on 42nd Street at around 10:30am and seeing several fire trucks racing towards the Towers. We were close enough to see the looks on the firefighters faces - determination and fear combined.

There is one quote that I'd like to share that has always remained in my memory and, for me, describes the significance of that day:

"It was one of those moments in which history splits, and we define the world as 'before' and 'after'."

My heart goes out to all who lost loved ones that day.

Even though it is painful to remember, we must never forget.

Thank you, Wendy, for this post.

Thank you for the tribute, Wendy. The one to your friend's son was beautiful as well.
I was up here in Canada, with all my family back in WV. Canada has never seemed so far away as it did that day, and I have never wanted to be home more.
Took me 3 hours to reach anyone at home, when I would try to call there was nothing..only static. When I finally was able to get through, I spent the next 10 hours on the phone with my Aunt, son and daughter. I was terrified to hang up and break the connection.
I can't believe it has been 14 years, still seems like yesterday, and my heart still breaks for all the lost lives and lost dreams.

I feel a little sad each year as the anniversary approaches. That memory still feels raw but unreal at the same time. Today I stood at my town's 9/11 memorial with the dogs and Gilbert and paid my respect. I had seen some of the flowers and candles blew over and as I picked up some of the roses to place them back, I saw a note written to the lost loved one attached to the flower. :( I wanted to cry.
