We are so Thankful in NE NC that we were not hit as bad as South Carolina. Yesterday evening high tide was the worse where I live . Here is a picture of my back yard. Driveway and the road leading in.

Oh my gosh, Christine! That is awful!!! :(

We're moving to Sumter in a few years, and they were hit really badly.

Is it over now, or is it still raining?

ROW, ROW, ROW YOUR BOAT, GENTLY THROUGH YOUR YARD...

Okay, maybe I shouldn't make jokes on such a serious topic, but I still think it helps if you can laugh. (It helps more if you can swim and laugh at the same time.)

Unfortunately I'm having memories of Hurricane Sandy, we lost everything down the shore. I'm lucky to live up in Philly, but I still had a lot of stuff back home. My dad and my grandfather still live down there but we still never recovered. I just think about how things played out and I'm always worried something might happen again.

And noooo Wendy, you can't move!

You are exactly right ! I could not drive in my yard so pulled into the path along side it. That path leads to Boyfriends parents house. When I finally stopped i called them. Now I could not drive all the way up to there house because of the water or mine . So just stopped on the high part half way. His parents are in there 80's lived there all there lives. She calmed me down a little I was so stressed. Then said Now Chris make sure you take your shoes off before walking to your house so you do not mess them up. I said Yes Ma'am ...... I guess she could hear the stress in my voice because in a real serious tone she said. Heck just strip off your dress pants so they don't get wet either no one will see....... Well except me and i have this new cell phone camera I have not used yet lmao . Cracked me up . NO I did not take them off lol Water is down . Still soggy ground

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
The flooding is horrific and will present challenges for a long time.

One of the untold stories is how devastating this is for wildlife. I also believe rescue and care agencies have become more compassionate toward pets in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

You are in my prayers along with your whole area. Keep your chin up and think about how tough you all are ;). I'm actually not kidding. I do this. When a bad snow storm hits that buries whole houses or baseball size hail hits... I think "well gee aren't we all tough" and it helps me dig in and handle the situation emotionally from a position of strength rather than being overwhelmed and helpless. Stay safe and remember that just because the road looks solid doesn't mean it is after something like this.
