Hello everyone!

It's been AWFULLY quiet around here. So how about we use this thread to all moan and groan / AND discuss what upsets us and WHY? :D

I'll be the first to open mouth and insert foot (which is a regular occurrence, in case you don't know me). Hey, I'm only human!!

CELL PHONES (how/when/why/how often they are used)

Yup, all in caps. Why? No, not because I'm some old fart who doesn't like technology and stuff, BUT because they (CELL PHONES) get in the way!

Cell phones are GREAT in case of an emergency!

WHY use them in the supermarket to talk loudly to your besties about your most intimate troubles WHILE people around you are shopping?

WHY have them on in the movie theater while folks around you are truly attempting to watch a movie?

WHY text non stop???? WHAT is so important that can't wait?

Using cell phones while in the car is my absolute BIGGEST pet peeve! Someone calling you while you're on the road? Can it wait? Can you call back once you've reached your destination?

Someone texting you while you're driving? I better not be the co-passenger while you 'take' that text and/or attempt to reply.

Life is short!

Life is hectic!

Crap happens ALL the time to each and every one of us! But guess what: Whoever is texting/calling/messaging you will still be there once you get to your POD (point of destination). Do NOT risk it - please! :(

Ok....rant over. I'll be civil. I promise! :D

So, what do YOU want to gripe/groan/moan/beotch about today???? :54: And WHY?????

I never thought I'd be this way as I've always been a patient person, but I think as a function of age and my job my pet peeve is people who seek help/ask questions without doing their own research and prepping themselves. Rich, coming from a forum poster, but stuff like (all true):

1. don't ask me to resend an email when a simple keyword search of your inbox will find it right away, since I'll be doing that same search in my own inbox,
2. don't ask me to send you a pdf Document you yourself have ready access to.
3. Don't ask me to help wake you up every morning if you don't want to take steps to help yourself: set alarm clock earlier, move the clock around to where you have to get up to turn it off

I've just come to realize as much as I love to be helpful, I'm a little tired of being people's nanny because they don't want to help themselves. I'm just tired of doing their work for them. I always make a concerted effort to find out what I can and do what I can on my own, then ask people to fill in the blanks as needed. I may not always get it right but at least I try. i wish more people had that mentality.

Where I live is basically my biggest gripe. It's about as stimulating as watching paint dry or grass grow. Cow pastures and large amounts of farm ground putting driving distance between towns and houses. Civilization is an hour drive there and back again. It's so boring here, there is literally no social outlet other than taverns which I never set foot in or church-which here is full of prudish busy-body older women who get into everyone's business and cluck over every little thing like mother hens. Think Saturday Night Live Church Lady without the comedy and you've got the gist of our local church goers, hehe. There's not even a movie theater. If I didn't have my parrots and crafts I'd be nuttier than a fruitcake. Hubbs claims the debate is still out on that one ;) If I hadn't been so close to my family I would have moved away. I think that's why I enjoy forums like this, it's my window into a world outside this little farm town.

The "religion of peace" upsets me. Watching it spread the work of Allah all over gun-free Paris right now.

Two things really.

Hate. Hatred of people without reason.

Two, people who don't take depression and anxiety seriously as a medical problem.

As a property manager I have a couple pet peeves...

1. your rent does NOT go in my bank account!
2. Your late fee also does NOT go in my bank account!
3. I do NOT get the power to decide how much your rent goes up or down.
4. No, there is no way for me to make the accounting system think you paid your rent when you didn't.

Amanda, I work at the headquarters for one of the largest hotel franchisors. This certainly resonates with me!

People who just don't listen, yet want to argue a point with you. Stubborn, I can handle. Or agreeing to disagree after considering the counterarguments? Fine. I can definitely respect that. But pig-headed? Not so much.

You know what I'm talking about. The people who take all the time in the world explaining why they are right, and then when your turn comes around, you can literally see them formulating their next rebuttal in their heads instead of actually listening to the words coming out of your mouth?

Yeah, those.

I only have a few pet peeves-
1. Smoking. Cigarettes, cigars, e-cigs even. It makes anyone look unappealing and stinks like hell. And nobody ever properly disposes of the butts. Ever.
2. Cursing. Is it really necessary? No, no it is not. Only absolute slobs curse.
3. Rudeness in general. I personally avoid being rude to anyone. It's a terrible way to treat people. Of course, many people are rude to me even after I'm nice to them.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Folks who leach their dogmatic political or religious views into inappropriate venues. I enjoy discussing a wide variety of topics and am personally very tolerant, but the increasingly polarized nature of our society gives me pause. I've read and been party to some horrendous online rants spurred by the anonymous and faceless nature of the internet.

I'm glad Parrot Forum does not have a political science subforum!!

As a college student, and a biology tutor, My current biggest pet peeve is tutoring people who want good grades without the work. If you never come in for tutoring except the night before midterms, I CAN NOT help you! I am not a magician, and frankly, if you don't care about your grade, why should I?! If you don't put in the work you wont get into the nursing program and that's not my problem or my fault.
There is no way I can help you understand and remember all three stages of aerobic respiration in one night. I can not help you understand skeletal muscle histology 4 hours before your exam. Also, if I give you a study suggestion, it isn't me trying to ruin your social life or make you miss the Friday night party. I see a study habit that needs to improve in order for your grade to improve. People need to take some responsibility for themselves.

*sigh* I fell much better...

People sending their young children to school when they are clearly very sick.

I'm a preschool teacher and you would be disgusted by how often parents bring their children into school ill. I'm not talking sniffly or with a little cough (it's winter, it happens to all of us), I'm talking about 102 degree fever, coughing so badly they can't catch a breath, or green snot oozing out of their nose so fast that by the time they walk to the classroom from the car it's running down their chin. If I can look at your child and tell instantly that they are not well, you know it too. Don't try to pretend you think they are fine and ready to join in the fun and learning of school when you pass off a child that has glassy eyes, clammy skin, can't breath and is limp as a dish cloth.

Disregard the fact that you are exposing every other child in the class to whatever virus or bacteria your child is oozing, YOUR KID IS MISERABLE! I strongly believe that a sick child should be home being cared for by someone who can ease their symptoms. Give them medicine, feed them chicken soup, wrap them in a blanket and let them sleep or rest cuddling a favorite lovey or watching a favorite movie. Don't force them to come into school where we can't do any of those things and instead have to try and isolate them from the group and limit what they play with (to things that we can sanitize).

I HATE IT when someone invades my personal space to sell me something I don't want to buy. I'm perfectly capable of finding ways to spend money all by myself, I don't need a scammer on my doorstep or on my phone.

Technology and the information superhighway have changed communication forever in a plethora of positive ways. If we'd only use it for the right reasons. It's sad to watch the dumbing down process and the erosion of basic human principles.

What bothers me most. I'll borrow some words from a very wise man.

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
Imagine (before it's too late)

Hah! A lot of these get my knickers in a knot. Especially the texting one, Wendy. There's a time and place... inside a moving vehicle while you're behind the wheel is not one.

I think my second pet peeve is that individuals often think beliefs systems are rigid. That you can't believe one thing if you believe another. Or that you can't change your point of view because "it's what you know", despite evidence being brought to you to suggest otherwise (so right alongside Stephen's pet peeve).

My other biggest pet peeve? Aggressive drivers! Weaving in and out of traffic does not make you faster. Passing me just because I'm going the speed limit does not make you a NASCAR driver. No, drifting around that corner in icy conditions and almost hitting an innocent driver in the process does NOT make you look cool, it makes you look immature and idiotic. Being pulled over by that cop doesn't make the cop a jerk, it means you were breaking the LAW. That's in place to protect people like yourself should someone else decide to drive stupidly. You are risking your life every day as it is simply stepping inside a vehicle... driving foolishly only increases the chance you'll not only hurt yourself, but some poor innocent just simply driving to get from point A to B. I absolutely HATE it when there is a lane closed, signs are everywhere so everyone moves to the other lane except for a few entitled idiots who stay in the closed lane until the last minute and then cut in front of everyone who got over when they should have.

Another pet peeve is people slamming doors in my face. Common courtesy doesn't seem to be so common anymore:(

Lane divers that almost remove your bumper to get in front of you then immediately lower their speed to a crawl.

Cell phones in inappropriate places at inappropriate times. Cell phones that should be surgically removed from their owners' faces so they could remember for a few seconds what planet they're on. Yesterday a woman was on a park bench, her phone attached to her face, one of her toddlers fell off a merry-go-round and busted his little butt. He was screaming for his mom. I picked him up, brushed him off and handed her, she didn't miss a word of her telephone conversation. She nodded at me.

The water department randomly turning off the water supply to work on the system for hours with no prior warning. Tell a group of parrots dinner and baths will be delayed for lack of fresh water. I really love the recorded message when you call to complain and ask when they think it may be convenient to turn the water back on. This never happened in the metroplex.

I feel much better now.

We don't either, but usually the idiot in front of us lets them all in. Argh.

I agree with everything said about cell phones...when I used to work a till, people would be at my till, and when I tried to tell them their total, many would hold up a hand to shut me up as they continued their conversation. Didn't work, I would tell them that there is a line behind them and that I would be happy to void their order so they can come back through the line when they are off the phone.
Actually did that a couple times when they wouldn't answer or pay.
