It is terrible how depressed I feel about Sterretjie. I wanted to post more wild birds, I wanted to post leopards and more and I just do not feel lis (in the mood) to do it. I sat in front of my computer this weekend and just stared at it. I had to prune the rose trees this weekend and even that was just left. My house was a disaster, I did not even take my shoes to the room that I took off Friday night! I just left everything around me and I dont even know what I actually did this weekend?!

Even if I do get good news today, it wont make a difference about how I feel. I was suppose to protect her and I failed. :(

Linky, you have done everything possible to get Sterretjie back to good health again.

YOU HAVE AND ARE PROTECTING HER YOU DID NOT FAIL IN ANY AT ALL

You took her to how many vets knowing something was wrong, how many turned their backs on you, and refused to to ex-rays or a blood test. You went back again and insisted one be done, right there and then. Remember you refused to leave until one was done.

IF IT WAS NOT FOR YOU STERRETJIE WOULD NOT BE ALIVE TODAY

Hey forget about the house my friend, I will personally come through this weekend and help out where ever I can.

If I was a bird, you would definitely be my guardian ;)

Following your nightmare from halfway around the world I have to agree with Antoinette. You have been strong for your bird and fought for her in a way that honors the best relationship that can be formed between human and parrot. Part of what you are feeling may be anxiety that you and your bird are not yet out of the woods and that certainly could affect concentration. Be kind and forgiving to yourself please for you too have suffered. We are all pulling for you.

OMG you have NOTHING to reproach yourself for, you did what any responsible pet owner would do - you trusted your vet! When you became suspicious of your vet's advice/findings you took matters into your own hands. This makes you an excellent parront.

Cheer up you have got to the bottom of Sterretjie's problems, the only way is up!

Linky: I do understand how you feel. Us animal lovers get really sad when another animal is in any kind of distress. You know our birds are sensative to our moods so you would want to be upbeat with Sterretjie so she can heal. We are our birds guardians but they can still get in trouble. Remember we cannot encase them in a bubble and would not even want to. Yesterday when I went to visit a family member I forgot to give Rosie her clean water dish. I came home and it was still sitting on the kitchen counter. I was very angry at myself but Rosie was actually not that thirsty. None of us can be the perfiect guardian for your birds. You have nothing to forgive yourself for. As Ant said if it were not for your alertness and perseverance Sterretjie would not be alive today.

You know what hurts so much is that out of all the houses in South Africa she chose my garden. She sat on my iguana aviary all dirty, skinny and scared. I went to fetch a chair so that we could be eye level and I spoke to her for almost a half an hour. I promised her that she will be safe and happy with me and that I would help her. Not as if she understood what I said but she did not fly away, she approached me slowly and eventually climbed on top of my arm. She decided that she will trust me.

She's been through so much with her leg and what ever the previous owners did to her - and believe me she is a terrified bird - a nervous wreck.

It just feels as if I broke my promise to her. :( This was really so unnecessary and she does not understand why I am doing this to her.

Hang in there... It was not your fault. you stuck to your guns and because of your persistence Sterretjie is on his way to recovery.

You are a great guardian.

Wildheart, I don't believe there is any more you could have done for Sterretjie. You haven't failed. Imagine how bad off she would have been if you didn't find her and take responsibility of her. I don't think she would have lasted long if you had not stepped in like you did. You've been a responsible owner, and don't let anyone, including yourself; tell you otherwise. She'll get better soon, you know she will. You've done all that you could.

Wishing you all the best!

Oh, Linky, please cheer up. Listen to what everyone has said. You've done a wonderful job with her. SB is right, none of us is a perfect guardian no matter how much we try to be and we have to let our birds, well, spread their wings so to speak.

She would hate it if you treated her like a glass bird. You both would have been very unhappy.

Keep your chin up and be there for her while she gets better.

Linky, I can understand being sad because Sterretjie has been ill, but you shouldn't be depressed feeling that it was your fault, you'd be hard pressed to find a better custodian to their fid on this forum, or anywhere for that matter than you've been to Sterretjie, please cheer up, with the love and support of your friends here on the forum you'll make it through :)

Thank you everybody, I do feel better. Sometimes we just need reassurance and you all gave it to me. Its almost been a month that she is sick, it really gets hard.

Linky I'm so glad you're feeling better. Remember you're not alone, you have fiends all over the world holding your hand.
