Fellow east coasters, how are you guys handling the cold? The wind here in Philly has been awful, one side of my house is much colder than the other, and I've broken out extra blankets to cover the birds with at night, as well as keeping them half covered during the day (especially the sides facing walls.) I get a little concerned about Tallulah since she doesn't have a cage and I can't afford to get one yet, but she sleeps all the way on top of the toy hook on her stand, close to the ceiling and doesn't seem cold.

My thermostat has been set to 74, but right now it's only 69 in here, poor heater is struggling to keep up. We're supposed to get some snow Friday into Saturday.

I'm laying in bed under my electric blanket and I expect today to be a cuddlefest with the birds.

I'm in hibernation mode. Seriously! I absolutely HATE the cold. HATE winter. And the forecast for the rest of the week looks rather depressing because I despise the white stuff, too. Yeah, go ahead and call me 'negative'. :D

Is it Spring/Summer yet? :54:

Believe it or not I love the cold and winter. Guess it's because I was born in New Hampshire. :p

I'm with you, love the cold. I think it's because I really enjoy the feeling of warming up. You can do something about the cold. You can run around naked as a jay bird during the summer and you're still hot.

....You can run around naked as a jay bird during the summer and you're still hot.

Then add hot flashes to that. ;) Doesn't bother me one bit. I'd rather run naked all day long in the heat (causing my neighbors involuntary blindness), especially because we have plenty of cold water. :09: Oh, and I get to enjoy my garden in the warmer months, and NOTHING beats that. :D

I'm with you, Wendy. I grew up in Arizona so cold to me was 50 degrees!

I was planning to hibernate, as well, but I looked at my calendar and I've made appointments this week. What was I thinking? At least I don't have to brave the commute to the city anymore - that was torture (in the cold or the heat).

My skin is peeling! It is now 41f and by tomorrow it will drop another 5!! My room is 53!

My house is hovering around 68°, not horrible at least but good luck getting me to go anywhere! Speaking of skin peeling, my face decided to just fall off the other day (not literally!) And has been peeling like crazy. First time I've had this issue in a while!

I love the cold. Sunday I was outside shoveling in a t-shirt, it was a balmy 28*F! lol

My house is generally set at 65*F, Willow has a "daytime" cage in the sun, and her big cage (sleep or extended absence) has a heated perch and pad for her to warm up/snuggle up to.

Sunday, I was mowing the lawn! With a jacket on! It was a freezing 63*F!

We always want what we don't have. . . . We've had a couple of "chilly" nights where it got close to freezing (brrr! LOL) but our week is high 60s and low 70s. I envy you guys your cold weather, a REAL winter (you can keep that snow stuff though, no thanks on that). I'd rather warm up than try to cool off. Sun and cold is my perfect combination weather wise. Ice and snow are just inconvenient. Stay warm!

Not looking forward to this storm on the weekend. My job requires me to do lots of walking around so I'm frozen right now!

In Central Texas, we've had both extremes for the past few weeks, upper sixties in the afternoons and twenties at night with a few days of inconvenient snow and ice. Gypsy and Sparkle have found a way of dealing with the cold. They love their blankies.

Last weekend was particularly cold compared to what it has been...was -32 on Saturday, and my poor Hubby had to work outside in it:( He got mild frostbite on a couple of fingers, but it has since warmed up to a blistering +1.

Allee, Sparkle and Gypsy look absolutely adorable:)

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
I really should recuse myself as definitely not on the east coast, but we've had an unseasonably cold winter in SoCal. Some mornings just above freezing. Got an email from my Dad who lives about 75W of Philadelphia - they are expecting between 10" to 20" with an upcoming storm. I was in Philly Jan 7 and it was 70F by noonish.

Ugh, it is the season. Y'all be safe.

**Terry probably holds the record for the coldest member locale!!**

Got me beat so far this year, -20*F was the coldest I've recorded so far this winter. Of course that being said....we won't see any above freezing temps until next week, lol

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
I live in Texas.

The high this past week was in the mid 70's... BBBRRRRR!

Which is cold compared to our summers, which are generally in the mid 100's..It's that wind chill that get's ya! Feels like the mid 50's. The other day, I actually had to wear a jacket. (I know, Siberia, right?!)

I think I've turned the heater on twice this year, for about an hour each time.

But 3/4 of the year, I've got to run the air conditioner 24/7 to keep the house from becoming an oven, and cooking my little chickens...

Terry, Canada is Arctic weather ! That's just crazy. How can anything at all live outdoors lol! I hope your hubby's hands recover soon. Back East doesn't sound fun either btw...

Tom, where's your jacket (and ski mask lol) at 28F ?!

Scott, I guess your part of SoCal is colder than my part of SoCal, but I have to say I'm enjoying this weather. It's perfect for me. It's in the 60's in the daytime, and at night I'm not sure, but I don't even need the heater. I like it on the cooler side, and I am NOT looking forward to the blazing hot Southwest summer!

Allee, adorable pics :).

Yep in Tx you run the heat at night and the air in the mid afternoon sumeyimes. But as Mark said our summers get hot. Before I got a car with air conditioning I got heat exhaustion 3 or 4 days a week every summer. My favorite (not) was when my mom wanted fast food ( even though we had sandwich stuff) because it was too hot to cook
Sometimes I went. Sometimes I was mean and told her to eat a sandwich.
