Some of you may remember my little incident with the scammers claiming to be from the IRS. http://www.parrotforums.com/off-topic/54714-irs-phone-scam.html

Well, I got a call a little while ago from an 'unknown' number (for the second time today), so I picked up. They didn't leave a message when they tried calling at 8AM. :54:

This is an old scam apparently, but just wanted to give you all a friendly warning, those buttheads stop short of nothing.

Really? Calling from Microsoft to fix my PC? I wonder how much he liked that whistle I blew into his ear. :21: (And that particular number is now blocked)

Well done Wendy, hope they enjoyed the whistle!
Unfortunately it's just the same over here, same scams.

It's all voice recorded PPI Perpetual Pain In a*** calls over here, can't even get the satisfaction of a whistle down the phone with them sort.

Another thing is to get the caller to explain what they want go all through it and then say who and who do you want to speak to and then say its wrong number or they are not here LOL maddening.

disclaimer: i am not associated with or paid to say etc the following just trying to share something that works for my home phone.

if you havent heard of it or signed up for it check out Stop robocalls and telemarketers with Nomorobo i had read about it a couple years ago and signed up for it. if i remember correctly there was a competition on how best to automatically deal with telemarketers and such and this won. its free. it doesnt work with all cell phone companies but does for most home phones. long story short if its a b.s. call it will ring once and thats it.

Thank you SO much for that, Chris!!! :emoticonc

I (we) DO get a crap ton of soliciting calls. And yes, the vast majority of them start off with a computer. I normally don't pick up unless I know who's calling. We do have voice mail set up. If the call is legit, that person can leave a message, and the legit ones usually do. All others I block. :54: Unfortunately my phone doesn't allow me to block 'private' callers or 'out of area' numbers.

Oh, and 'Microsoft' has since called back 3 additional times. Once with the same number (that I blocked) and twice with a brand new number. Yup, I picked up again, and the SAME dude with heavy duty foreign accent knew ALL the bad English words. :21: He might be deaf now though cause I had my whistle still handy......

Well done Wendy, hope he doesn't call again. Although he's probably gone home with ear ache. It cracks me up when they tell you their name is Keith LOL :)

Me thinks I stirred the 'pot'. I'm about to yank my phone right out of the socket....... :11: I 'only' have 250 people I can block, and that particular 'Microsoft' group is adding to my 'blocked' list quite rapidly.

I've smartened up just a wee bit. I'm not picking up the phone again today. :52:

I'm registered with the do not call list and I get calls constantly. Most recently apparently I've "won" a cruise package and the call recording starts out with a semi-loud cruise ship horn blast before the dialogue. It's SUPER annoying.
