So I just finished reading "Alex and me" by Irene Pepperberg and it was just amazing! It's her story of training Alex the African grey and all the amazing scientific and animal-human discoveries/milestones made along the way!

Easy read! I did it in a week and as a bird person I found it was very easy to relate to Dr.Pepperberg and some of her early stories. I think everyone on this forum would def love this book! If anyone picks it up lmk what you thought.

Word of caution -I CRIED!!! 2x actually! Mainly bc I just imagined my birds, but still! :p

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
It is indeed a great book, though tragic Alex passed on at such an early age. :(

I recieved the book as a gift years ago when I was caring for a sick eclectus. I'll admit I cried more than once before I finished the book, it was worth it, I learned a lot.

Pepperburg and Alex are heros in my opinion, they certainly broke new ground in the study of Avian linguistics.

I was loaned the book last year, but I thought it started out a bit slow, although I realize why she put all the back story in the first chapters. I'm sure the second half of the book was different. The loaner of the book and I had a falling out, so I decided to just return it to her before I was finished. Maybe one day I'll borrow it from the library and read the entire thing.

This can be our mini book club lol
The start was slow but I loved when she found feathers in her books bc that was something that happened to me a few times in school!

Def tragic how early Alex passed though! His last words were even sadder! Has anyone seen the meme that was made? I'll see if I can post it for those who haven't
