So , today I was out in the "woods" relocating goper tortoise. I dig them up and biologist relocate them to an area that is out of the construction limits. This was a power line right of way and they where putting up new poles. Long story short, I was working near a power line substation, lots of poles. The quaker.parrots loves these areas for nest sites, usually many large nest and lots of nest and defenoisy quakers. I wnd it from the inside. atched a flock of crows move in and start to try and "break" into the the nest to rob/eat the babies. The entrances are from the the bottom and the adults would.go into the the nest and defend it. The crows couldn't start the defense and would try to.get to the.babies by breaking through the top of the nest. I shot some vide:grey:of but haven't figured out how to get it here. It's amazing to watch natural events and realize how they shape the way things are. The only nest building parrot has given a lot of thought into how to defend.it's nest.

My engineering background has always been spirited by what nature builds. An ongoing source of answers to problem that I have faced.

To build a nest that provides safety from weather and defense against attack, that's inspirational!

I would also love yo see the video... quakers are Amazing and though they are the villains in your video I have a secret love of crows too I find them fascinating and so intelligent and not beyond using tools like a stick at times to get whatever job they are doing done.

Richard, thank you for sharing the experience and thank you for helping relocate the gopher tortoises.

I would love to see the quaker video, if not the video, do you have photos of the tortoises and the quaker nests?

What an amazing act of kindness!

Quakers are illegal here in GA but I owned one when I was at college in Wisconsin and they sure are special little birds.

I'm looking forward to seeing this video as well. Only thing I would add to the above instruction is to copy the YouTube link, click the link tab in your reply window (the one that has a world symbol and a small chain link), and then post the link into the window that appears.

A bit off the subject?

Back out West, we had desert tortoises visiting our back yard. They were peaceful, and enjoyed hand-outs... great neighbors. The one thing that struck me MOST... when they looked at us, they sought out our EYES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not our feet or hands or whatever... they knew where the communication was, I guess? I was moved almost to tears by that.
