Saw this on pinterest this morning. Since Kiwi doesn't speak, can I get my money back:D I know I've had him longer than the 90 day trial period but I think we got a defective unit lol:54:

All joking aside, this really shows how far we've come in how we view our pets! I can only imagine the horrors of what that $1.50 cage must've been like:eek: Or how traumatizing 'shipping' must've been for a wild caught, discount "parrot" (guessing amazon by the picture?).

Um Yeah Wait serious he does not talk ? Sing ?? Whistle ?

He says the odd garbled "hello" if he REALLY wants something and "f-you" if you REALLY make him mad (someone must've told him that A LOT for him to have learned it). He doesn't sing and he can only make the first half of the wolf whistle (and only when you have him in the shower with you:52:).

Kiwi actually has an extremely limited range of noises he makes- honks (like a goose), hoots (like an owl), a high pitched "weeeet" and a contact call. That's about it. We suspect he may have been yelled at or smacked at or something when he'd vocalize in a prior home because he is just really stunted in that department. 90% of the time he is totally silent, even when dancing, playing and hanging out. He used to screech a lot when we first got him, but we ignored it and encouraged the few vocalizations he now makes regularly. He seems to have no concept of the 'typical' range of amazon vocalizations though. Had someone encouraged him as a young bird instead of locking him in a dungeon, he'd likely be a cognitive talker as he is very intelligent:mad:. Think the talking ship has sailed on that ever happening now along with his ability to ever fly:(

I like to show ads like this to my mom when she laments, "What is the world coming to. . .?" Uh, I think it's more like "What kind of world did we used to live in?!" for something like that to have been possible, even "normal." Thank God for progress then. . .

I was just on Market street today!

I can only imagine how many birds I'd have if I could get them that cheap. :p

Kiwi I can not believe that you have a blue front Amazon that does not talk. THey are among the best. Have you tried one of those repeat boxes? I started salty with one of those and it seems to have done the trick to get him started. Now he picks up words on his own. You may want to look into one of those. he is a handsome devil regardless.

My Sydney is like Kiwi, he says "Hello" and "Buhbye" and he can do the full wolf whistle, but mostly just does the first half too! He's somewhere between 30 and 40 years old, and was neglected pretty bad, so he also might have been discouraged from talking.

My amazon pair that's about 18 years old also don't talk, and don't really make anything other than amazon noises. I've had them since October or so, so hopefully with some time they'll learn. Sydney I've had for a number of years now and I'd love him to talk, but he doesn't seem to want any part of it.

I guess it just goes back to the whole "not every parrot talks, even species known to be good talkers". My parents birds have never been mistreated in any way, but none of them talk. They make really beautiful and diverse vocalizations though. Even Alfie the G2 can make some really cute noises besides the screeching:p. Lucy the DYH makes the most beautiful bird noises I've ever heard, almost melodic in nature and she vocalizes constantly. I think that's because she's wild caught and learned the noises they'd make in nature:)

I'm actually kind of glad Kiwi isn't a talker. I'd rather hear him make his goose honks and owl hoots than have him say "hello" and "pretty bird" over and over until I wanted to put my head through the wall. Our landlords IRN has a few phrases he knows (pretty bird, his name, hello, wold whistle etc...) and he uses them "often".

BTW- When Sydney makes the half wolf whistle, does he expect you to make the other half? Kiwi does! He gets real upset too if you don't. We use it sometimes when he's contact calling to communicate we're around.

Funny, all the birds I;ve had WERE talkers.
Winston, YNA, was classic, talked head head off, with new phrases all the time
Max, a Yellow SHoulder Parrakeet ( Bee Bee Parrot) not known for talking even got a few down ( What cha doin, Whats a Pirate Say, Maxies, Hello) and whistled well ( Wolf , parts of 1812 overture, Star Wars theme, etc)
Salty - well you al been reading about him, picks up words and phrases from me, wife , kids and TV. And lots of Amazon crazy talk - sounds like he is out of his mind some times

Offer still stands if you want to borrow my repeat box.

There is no reason to speak Human if you have trained them well! After all, if you have them rapped around your little nail and standing ready to meet your every needed, why? A well trained Human just makes life so much easier!

Always Remember:

Dogs have families
Cats have servants
But Amazons; Amazon's have Staff!

Regarding a Refund maybe we should consider a Class Action Suit!

Yeah he does, we definitely go back and forth with wolf whistles. I've tried to encourage him to do it as a contact call but he prefers screaming instead. :54:
