For a Bear. Coming down the highway there was a bear caught between the guard rails going across a small swamp area. I slowed down to a crawl. Saw a car coming in the other direction flashed my lights and they stopped. I keep creeping forward slow. The bear stayed in front of my car for quite a ways then just jumped the rail.

By the time he went over about 9 cars were behind me and quite a few in the other direction. Few were taking pictures . Dang it i was so busy watching him lol. He was only 3 to 5 ft ahead of my car the whole time. First time I have ever been that close to a wild bear. So exciting .

Well, pushing the thin edges - but did full-fill the eye grabbing requirements of a Great Title!

Now for a moment of Hero Worship: And, yet another 'Honored Member' of the Parrot Forum steps forward to save the day! A Great and Honorable Job Well Done!

And, tied with the true hero status here! There is just a ton of underlining humor, all of which I am working hard at resisting -- all to assure this Thread gets a long run and a large number of hits.

Thanks, for the moment!

OK, so what is the real reason there is no pictures. :D

Yep, your subject was definitely the eye-catcher!

yup lets see if another Mod changes it lol...

Hahahaha! Nah, I like the eye-catcher aspect. You nut! ROTFL!

Gah! Pictures would've been amazing! You're killing me, Chris! Lol! I love that you provided an escort for that poor, and no doubt VERY confused, bear. With a different driver, that might've ended tragically.

I was driving lol. Could not take time to dig out cell phone and stay just behind the bear. AND as it turns out the car coming from the other direction was a member of the Sheriff Dept on her way to work. A dispatcher but still able to cause me trouble LOL

I forgot to take a picture LOL

No doubt a memorable drive to work, Chris! I'm so glad you were there to slow traffic and escort the bear to safety! I love a story with a happy ending. Thank you for being a hero and sharing the story.

I saw the subject and said WHAT???? Lol!!! That's an awesome moment and memory. In 2012 I was working in Iowa so I'd fly from Houston to Omaha, then drive 90 mins to my site. Well I got to experience rut season with the deer and one day, a big buck crossed I 80 coming towards me and was getting ready to run in front of me. I started honking and he froze, another truck stopped to usher him off the freeway. But a few weeks later, Husband flew up to see me because I was staying over a weekend to take my site live on their new system. It was close to midnight, we were almost to the hotel, in the corn fields and dang it, a buck bolts out in front of us and destroyed the rental car. We were fine, the deer wasn't but now when I see large animals on the road I'm on full alert and start slowing down. I don't know how I'd react to a bear though but great job!

We see a lot of deer here. I know there are a lot of Bear but you just don't see them often.

Wild life set loose a lot of Turkeys where I live. I have watched them raise a few seasons. Love seeing that.

I have hit two deer. They can do major damage. Both that I hit got up and ran off. Hope they lived but was told it was doubtful

Yes the deer we hit was still alive. I ran to check on him and he couldn't get up, his back was broken. So when the sheriff arrived I pushed him to take care of the deer first so we wouldn't continue suffering. The sheriff had to shoot him twice before he went down. Yes I am an animal lover. My father is a hunter and took me on a few deer hunting trips to which I purposely botched up for him, lol! "Don't kill Bambi!" was my line lol!

I learned from the town folk that the next day, someone had taken the deer's head, he had a huge rack. I also texted my Dad and told him that Husband got his first trophy buck, Dad replied how did he get it. I reply he hit it with the SUV, Dad replied it didn't count, lol!

THE BEAR might have something to say to the Sheriff's dispatcher if she were foolish enough to get out of the car and complain.

So, you're going to add video to the auto. Well, I would recommend that you consider a GoPro 'Hero' 4. After all, the title 'Hero' is already part of its name! :D

Also, a Welcome Back Mark!

FYI: Had to dig the cell phone out? Wait a minute, like the bear was exceeding five miles an hour?

So, your Wild Life (DNR) group released wild Turkey in your area. Mark your calendar ten years out. That is when the herds (maybe their called bands) of Turkey gather-up in the early months of the new year. We see gathering in the low hundreds.

This Winter in January I was snowmobiling down a well-know trail when the forest floor in front of me turned black. As I came closer, it became clear that the forest floor was covered in a gathering of Turkey. I slowed way down to a near slow walk and slowly cut by way though the mass gathering. Turkey are big and hitting them at speed is just dangerous. Having them fly in mass would likely be deadly both ways.
