So I don't know how far this extends, but it might likely affect pet food as well. I know I eat a lot of sunflower seeds during the summer myself. The recall covers a large number of brands and suppliers.

Something to be aware of, not just for your birds if there are sunflower seeds in any mix you feed, but also other animals that might be eating them as well. The cuplrit is listeria, which has been ravaging through a lot of different foods the last year.

This represents a major problem since this is all 'Human Grade' supply side. So, depending on what supplier the Human Grade' - Parrot Mix is purchased from, this will affect all East Coast and Mid-West Parrot Mix Packagers.

So, 'Human Grade' parrot mixes, with East Coast and Mid-West supply points are likely included in this recall.

I do not recall whether Listeria degrades when frozen, so will need to research that point. I believe it does, but its been awhile.

OK, Bad News - Listeria is not effected by Freezing. It will not grow while Frozen, but will as soon as it becomes un-frozen!

It can affect people and animals. From what I've read, rodents are especially susceptible, and it can affect poultry and several other types of birds according to wikipedia. I couldn't find anything particular about parrots specifically, but I wouldn't rule it out, since it can infect other birds.

Cross contamination is a real thing and that's my biggest fear, since listeria is quite resilient. From the article that I linked, some bulk suppliers are affected, so it's very hard to trace when it trickles down. I know in my Giant that I usually shop at, the sunflower seeds have already been recalled, but I'm nervous to buy anything that might have come in contact, and I usually purchase slivered almonds and raw pumpkin seeds.

All of this coming after multiple frozen vegetable recalls really has me on edge.
