Birds Rescued by OHS from Terrible Conditions - Oregon Humane Society

How can anyone do this?! And to think this was happening just a few miles away from us! We can't afford to donate much right now as we're on a rather tight budget, but I will be seeing if they'd want any handmade toys for the bigger birds, as I have lots of supplies on hand. Awful, absolutely awful. I hope these beautiful birds find loving homes.

Edit: If you watch the video, it is very graphic and heart wrenching to see the conditions these poor, innocent, beautiful babies were living in. So, so horrible:(

Green water?? Not even perches in some cages? And so much dirt; are the rescuers wearing masks to avoid the smell? Did I see a bowl with only brightly colored sugar treats??? That's all from the first 35 seconds of the three minute video, I don't know if I can watch more!

I'm so saddened those poor babies had to live through that, and more than a little relieved they'll be given much better conditions in the future. I hope they're all in well enough health to live to see brighter days!

Cages haven't been cleaned since last spring? No, that's definitely longer than that, that looks like years. This always hurts my heart seeing how people can do this to any animal. I'm just glad someone spoke up about it. You can see in the video all of them going to the food and water, probably starving and dehydrated. I really hope they all go to good homes, and it's a shame that many of them will need a lot of work to be handled.

These are breeder birds... not pets... so they're not meant to be "hand able".... although it's obvious that at least *some* of them had been pets at one point in time.... re: bare eyed cockatoo saying "Hello! Hi Charlie! Hi! Hi!" towards the end of the video.

There's no mention of any dead animals, so that might be a good sign at least?????

I called OHS this morning and they can use toys. Going to make up 5 each for small, medium and large birds. Also going to bring in a big batch of birdie bread. It's the least we can do in lieu of being unable t make a financial donation.

I so hope the monster responsible will have the book thrown at them and receives harsh fines and jail time.

Just a hunch, but I'm guessing this guy probably picked birds up as unwanted pets off craigslist and the like and figured he could make a small fortune off breeding them. I'm guessing by those conditions they were never healthy enough nor desired to breed. I didn't see any baby birds in the video and their wish lists didn't contain any formula. No way he was a serious breeder or producing consistent clutches.

None reported dead, but they are still being assessed by a vet. Fingers crossed there are no serious illnesses that have spread around the group. Just one bird with something like PBFD could leave most of them ill and possibly needing to be euthanized. Just another shot in the dark here, but I bet that creep never had them vet checked nor properly quarantined new birds.

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
Most hoarders are mentally ill. They think they are "rescuing" these animals, but they lack the capacity to actually care for them. So a neglected animal goes from the frying pan into the fire...

These people don't even realize the harm they are doing...

Hoarder calls were ALWAYS the worst....

Except this isn't a "hoarder" in the typical sense... but a breeder who allowed the care of his animals to greatly diminish.

And as per many breeders, if people who no longer wanted their birds returned them to the breeders, then there would be no unwanted birds.
