Keep all of us in your thoughts please. Today is bound to be crazy. Two of my boys have a rare genetic bone disease and require frequent surgery. When possible, we like to combine procedures to limit the number of times they have to go under general anesthesia. To that end, as soon as one of their orthopedists decide surgery needs to happen, all the others orthos take a look and see if anything needs to be done within their subspecialties. This time both the hand/arm surgeon and the hip/leg surgeon both decided that *both* boys needed work done. Thankfully the spine guy and the tendon/ligament guy and the neurosurgeon all gave the all clear for their areas.

So I've done this with both boys having surgery on the same day (once in two different hospitals and I was a single mom with no family nearby, which was awful), and I've done this spaced out by 6-8 weeks. While surgery day is chaos, the recovery is easier this way. We are at the hospital now waiting to be called back to pre-op.

Thanks! One kid is back in the OR, and should be out shortly, and then the other will go back as soon as they clean the OR.

Tsali - African Grey- I am a one parrot parent. It's a full time job keeping Tsali healthy and happy.
Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Hope the surgeries went well. May I inquire - are the boys skin kids or of the feathered variety? I haven't been around much in the last month or so and have missed much.

Human kids. They have a fairly rare, but genetic bone disease. Two of my three inherited it from their father.

Older kid did great. He's running around all "Surgery? What surgery? I feel fine". He's home with MrC.

Younger kid is having some pain issues. He got admitted overnight and we're talking about another night because he can't manage on oral pain meds.

I'm supposed to be picking up Charlotte from the avian hospital today, where she's been since Monday. MrC might have to do that, but he doesn't want to be the one that rescues her, as he wants to make sure the bond between her and me stays tight.

I'm glad the surgery went well and hope your son having the pain issues is as comfortable as possible. Soon he will be home!

Guess another day at the "resort" will be tolerable for Charlotte?

Oh my, I was totally thinking we were talking about feathered kids when I made my first reply. (I was wondering why you considered it off topic). I'm really glad to hear your one son at least is feeling good after the surgery, and I hope they are able to find a good alternative that helps your other son with the pain management better.

I stick by my comment about you being a great Parront, but I feel I should add in you are clearly a wonderful Parent as well! I legitimately can't imagine being in your shoes with this one, and my heart is with you and Mr. C, and your sons. Thank you for keeping us in the loop!

Thanks! The big one is totally fine, and asking to walk to his girlfriend's house. Yeah, not quite yet. I had kind of a meltdown last night and MrC came to the hospital and spent the night with me and the youngest. I needed that. Youngest kid should be getting discharged this afternoon. He's doing a lot better since yesterday.

I'm sorry to hear about your bit of a meltdown. Life gets the better of all of us at some point or another, and you certainly have plenty on your plate right now, so it's totally understandable!

I'm very glad to hear about your sons though, especially your youngest doing so much better today. I hope the rest of the day goes extra smoothly for you all, and you can have a bit of relaxation the rest of this weekend.

MrC should probably be canonized.

My best friend alternately calls him MrC The Great, Saint MrC, MrC the wonderful, and other such titles. He took on three high needs teenagers that aren't his and loves them as if they are, even though he didn't have to. During my single mom days, quite a number of men said they'd be okay with me having kids, but when the reality of medically needy kids sank in, they all ran screaming. MrC did not, and jumped in with both feet. His response is always "what can I do to help you? What do you need?" He's one in a billion, that man.

(Replacing MrC with his real first name, of course)
