I have a phoenix on my right shoulderblade, and was curious if anyone else here had a bird tattoo and if they wanted to share? :D Or tattoos in general. I like tattoos.

I got my phoenix right after I graduated. I had wanted one since my senior year in high school, and I still wanted it 4 years later, so with tattoos, that is generally a sign you should get it. :) I like phoenixes and they mean a lot to me. So I was pretty careful when choosing an artist. I have another tattoo on my collarbone that is a line by Sylvia Plath (I am I am I am) and he was the same artist who did that one. I want to get my hedgehog in a star setting at some point as well as a watercolor Frankenstein (I'm a horror author). I wish I could get all of my pets, but I would run out of skin that I am willing to get tattoos on.

But here is my phoenix! (The side of my face looks very odd in this picture. Please disregard. :D :D :D)

Ohh yeah. My first one wasn't too bad since it was just a line. The phoenix was awful at points. So worth it, but I was like "...is it done yet? Oh...you just started the wings? Okay..." After my first, I thought I was awesome and had a high pain tolerance. Then I got the phoenix...However, I never cried. I was just uncomfortable. Apparently that is better than some have done. :D

Great Phoenix, you chose an amazing artist! I have no birds, though I do have a hot, shirtless guy in bondage on my back (that's always a fun one to explain when you have your shirt off at the pool) :D I am also a fan of tattoos, though I generally try to avoid any you could see when I'm dressed for work. I would love to have a bird!

And I actually do have high pain tolerance. I barely feel tattoos.

Hahahaha. I can only imagine. :D I've always been tempted to get angry grapes and caption it the "Grapes of Wrath." I make a ton of pathetic puns to my friends, so it would be appropriate. Funny tattoos are seriously the greatest.

He is a tattoo artist in my college town. He is seriously amazing. And not expensive either. I wasn't taking price into consideration. I'd prefer a good expensive tattoo than a cheap bad one. But I think I paid 500 including tip. I expected 800. I don't think I am going to find those kind of prices in Chicago now. Hahaha. I'm a creative writer, so my field doesn't necessarily care. But while I'm temping at different offices, I'm being more careful.

Your Phoenix is gorgeous! I have 3 tats, but they are all small and boring. I would love to have a bird one.

You say you write horror--this is off topic but I was cruising the net at the crack of dawn last night and saw the previews for the show Black Mirror and it looks amazing. If your idea of amazing is curling yourself into a fetal position whimpering that "the future is bright" and convincing yourself that this modern day Twilight Zone is going to come true. I watched the first episode and had to comfort myself that if it does happen I will probably be dead and only my parrot will have to suffer through the horror. (Sorry, Lucille). If you like scary stuff, it's the best show or book I've seen/read in a long time. (I like dark, psychol Hi all horror that reeeeally gets inside your head. American Horror Story doesn't scare me even a little, though I will watch it for Matt Bomer's lovely face, but Black Mirror gives me a sick feeling in my gut).

I will need to check this out! Horror usually doesn't freak me out because I know how it works pretty well; writing it will desensitize you. My brother and I have an annual viewing of the Exorcist during which we just make wisecracks at it. He's in college for the first year, so I may bring the DVD and crash his dorm one weekend.
(Actually only horror movie that scares me even a little is The Blair Witch Project. I can't explain why)

But I am going to start prodding my boyfriend into watching Black Mirror with me now. Thank you. :D

DYH Amazon
Our Male DYH Amazon has a tattoo, does that count? Common back in the day, when sexing was determined by Surgery and then marked at the shoulder of the wing. Right side for boys, left side for girls.

So, he is the only one in our family with a Tattoo. Tattoo's on old folk are not that great looking anyway.

I have one of a Lilac Breasted Roller on my shoulder.
It surprises people because it almost completely hides under the shortest of sleeves... then all the sudden I'll wear a sleeveless. :D

This was taken right after it was done. Not sure why the quality is iffy here. It's faded just a touch since.

That phoenix is beautiful! I got a small tattoo of a bird on my hip. Lets say it turned out looking more like a seagull than a parrot:p. Only tattoo I've ever gotten, but I really admire some of the beautiful parrot ones I've seen.

None. My wife has one too many. Kidding!
The Mrs. desperately wants a little green Rickeybird on her right shoulder but is scared of the pain. She has the thing all drawn out but it's still in one of the piles of sketches around here somewhere. And YES I'm supportive. Not sure the bird will be.....

Anyone watch Friends? I'd end up with a Feebie tattoo, just a dot and we are done, lol!

To be honest- it depends on where you get it. My shoulder? Fine. Felt like a sunburn being poked with a pencil. It hurt, sure, like a sunburn but it wasn't "Oh god why" until they got around the side, over the tender bits, and my shoulder blade. That's comparable to a needle on a sunburn.

Its NOT like an injection needle. Think of it as a very angry paintbrush.

Angry paintbrush... yeah, okay...
Thanks.
I'm working myself up to it, day by day.
I just really want the Rbird on my shoulder "forever", whatever that means...
:)

This is actually the same place and person who did mine! Ms. Leah was really nice.

Like I said- it's really not that bad! I was terrified before I got mine, which is one reason I got one.

I say a paintbrush, because up close it actually looks like one. If you go through the video, it shows it working up close, and it really looks like a paintbrush! One that does not bend.
