Pazu - Green Cheek Conure - Hatch Date ~27 September 2014~
I've been planning this trip for months, trying to mentally prepare myself and I feel like a mess.
I'm off for 4 days with my boyfriend (to London mcm/comicon), so Pazu is staying with his parents for that time. They've been great the whole time, taking on all the instructions and precautions, even agreeing to not have him out in that time.
He's been relocated with them too for this time (they only live above us so this isn't an issue), and since then I have been a mess. He's bitten me so bad the past day, he doesn't normally cause this much damage so i recon he knew something was up...

I just feel so anxious now he's up there. I've seen that they can get his bowls out eventually, even when he's trying to get out. But he should calm down once he's up there for a night. They know his food, I showed then how to target practise with the stick to help them interact with him but keep hands mostly out of biting reach.

He was so upset with the whole thing he wouldn't let me stroke him without trying to draw blood, which you'd think would make it easier but doesn't...

"It will be fine", I know it will but that doesn't help me stop worrying....

Sorry I need to rant, my typing isn't hitching like my voice is. (Instead I ramble).
They said they'd send a picture each day with a newspaper as proof of life if I want (which would help me get over this).
I really need a trip like this to force me to back off and see someone else can help with Pazu besides my boyfriends.

All this still doesn't make it feel better...

Awwwwwwwwwwwww... I'd be the same way! And of course, Pazu senses something's up and is upset, too. I think you're pretty brave. I hope you can loosen up enough to enjoy yourself, though, truly I do.
Patagonian hugzszszszsz to you AND Pazu!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Oh, that is a very rational rant!! Separation anxiety is a two-way street with parrots. Is it possible to Skype or Facetime while you are away?

Routine is important to parrots, and Pazu knew something was different, but had no idea what to expect. He should settle in within a day or so, and having a proof-of-life pic will hopefully set your mind at ease. At the same time you will best enjoy your vacation if it is possible to compartmentalize to some degree. All good parronts deserve some fun away from home!

Compartmentalizing is good, indeed.
I also enjoy magical thinking. I have a little Rickeybird pendant that I made, and as long as I am wearing it, I feel as if we're together.
So maybe a little reminder/something to comfort you?

Thanks guys. I would love to face time but due to my boyfriends parents (my lovely Pazu sitters) work and the times I'll be back (they're up early and to bed ealier) I don't think it'll be an option. But I'm free to message them whenever as they are to me just in case.

That is a great idea, I used a feather of his to make an ear cuff (was going to a wedding), I'll bring that with me (plus all the photo's I've taken of him).

Thank you for the moral support :,)

Remember, it is mandatory that you make everyone at the wedding, and that is everyone, sit and go through the photos with you! Great bonding time!

Enjoy yourself, have fun.
But you prolly got some 'splainin' to do when you get home. I know too. I go to CHina 2x a year for 2 weeks, takes me a week or so until Salty is back to normal.

Oh I expect some guilt tripping.
With how "well" it went taking him upstairs, I imagine he'll be so attached to my neck when I go to get him on Monday it may be very hard to get him in his travel cage. Not attached by the beak, when I've left him with the boyfriend for a few days hes like he hasn't seen me in months but he's obviously upset with hands.

So I expect more damage to my hands.
I'm feeling a bit better now though still anxious. I'll be messaging them later when I know one of them is back home. To make sure he gets alot of sleep one of them is dealing with the morning duty's and the other has the evening(he also will be spending the most time with Pazu).

The word after I left yesterday was he quietened down but is hopping about like he wants out. So I see a grumpy bird in my future.

A friend of mine said. "Don't stress. Undress." Don't stress it will be fine I would ask for them to give you email updates and photos. Because the time difference can be hard.

I went on a 10 day trip to Paris and left my one year old daughter with her grand parents. That was so hard. On the 8th day away I wanted to go home so badly. I enjoyed myself it was amazing so worth it. Paris is not stroller friendly.

Have fun it will all be fine. It sounds like an amazing trip.
