I thought it would be fun to share season's traditions and trivia around the globe. I visited a small library yesterday in a small town in Central Texas. The library was warm and inviting as always, a beautiful tree, mistletoe, stockings, wrapped gifts, holly, hot chocolate for the patrons. My favorite decoration was a miniature mahogany piano, the musician, a ceramic mouse in red tie and tails. I told my long time friends and librarians how lovely the reading room looked. As I was leaving, I said, "Merry Christmas, wait, I mean, Holiday Greetings." One of the dear ladies' said, "Allee, you know better, around here we say, Merry Christmas!"

This is an excerpt that I just have to share.

****
Politically Correct Holiday Wishes (with warrantee)
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

May you have a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2002, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped to make America great (not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country), and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, political belief, sexual preferences, or gender identity of the wishee.

(By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for themselves, herself, himself, itself or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.)

Humor Matters Christmas
A Politically Correct Christmas Poem

Twas the night before Christmas and Santa's a wreck...
How to live in a world that's politically correct?
His workers no longer would answer to "Elves",
"Vertically Challenged" they were calling themselves.
And labor conditions at the North Pole,
were alleged by the union, to stifle the soul.

Four reindeer had vanished without much propriety,
released to the wilds, by the Humane Society.
And equal employment had made it quite clear,
that Santa had better not use just reindeer.
So Dancer and Donner, Comet and Cupid,
were replaced with 4 pigs, and you know that looked stupid!

The runners had been removed from his beautiful sleigh,
because the ruts were deemed dangerous by the EPA,
And millions of people were calling the Cops,
when they heard sled noises upon their roof tops.
Second-hand smoke from his pipe, had his workers quite frightened,
and his fur trimmed red suit was called "unenlightened".

To show you the strangeness of today's ebbs and flows,
Rudolf was suing over unauthorized use of his nose.
He went to Geraldo, in front of the Nation,
demanding millions in over-due workers compensation.

So...half of the reindeer were gone, and his wife
who suddenly said she'd had enough of this life,
joined a self help group, packed and left in a whiz,
demanding from now on that her title was Ms.

And as for gifts...why, he'd never had the notion
that making a choice could cause such commotion.
Nothing of leather, nothing of fur...
Which meant nothing for him or nothing for her.
Nothing to aim, Nothing to shoot,
Nothing that clamored or made lots of noise.
Nothing for just girls and nothing for just boys.
Nothing that claimed to be gender specific,
Nothing that's warlike or non-pacifistic.

No candy or sweets...they were bad for the tooth.
Nothing that seemed to embellish upon the truth.
And fairy tales...while not yet forbidden,
were like Ken and Barbie, better off hidden,
for they raised the hackles of those psychological,
who claimed the only good gift was one ecological.

No baseball, no football...someone might get hurt,
besides - playing sports exposed kids to dirt.
Dolls were said to be sexist and should be passe.
and Nintendo would rot your entire brain away.

So Santa just stood there, disheveled and perplexed,
he just couldn't figure out what to do next?
He tried to be merry he tried to be gay,
but you must have to admit he was having a very bad day.
His sack was quite empty, it was flat on the ground,
nothing fully acceptable was anywhere to be found.

Something special was needed, a gift that he might,
give to us all, without angering the left or the right.
A gift that would satisfy - with no indecision,
each group of people in every religion.
Every race, every hue,
everyone, everywhere...even you!
So here is that gift, it's price beyond worth...

None. My wife has one too many. Kidding!
Allee, that post is one for ages. Well conceived, well researched, well said, well offered. I'm going to distribute it (with proper credit to you and your sources). My thanks.

This is great. Personally, be as incorrect as you want, I really dont care - everyone is entitled to your own opinion, if you want to say how you feel and use every inappropriate way in doing so, go ahead, Im comfortable enough to be fine with myself. I am way more into reality than some though, theres way too many important things going on in the world than to get my panties in a bunch over the corrrect term someone used.
A lot of it is misinformation too. Like Flboy said, the xmas thing - I respect what you think regardless, but while the xmas thing is nothing less than controversy, the x is simply an abbreviation for christ in Greek (used for thousands of years and widely in Greece) and it isnt pronounced ex, rather kye or chi but correctly in english, christ. Same goes for the pentagram and the goats head, and the number 666, which all really mean various different things including fertility, love, and the different pagan gods - but all of this was demonized by early christianity and is today associated with the devil - this couldnt be farther than the truth!

The holidays are getting more blurred each year.. whatever you want to greet with, go ahead, and however you want to do it, go ahead. Why get mad at someone for trying to say something nice just because it wasnt said the way that one approves; truth be told no one really cares what I or anyone thinks anyway, besides myself.
HAPPY M$^#<@*(×*#* CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!! :D :D
Whatever you do during this time of the years, do it good!

Absolutely hysterical, Allee!
I am happy when anyone takes the time to wish me well using any terminology they choose:)
As for us, we say Merry Christmas (and write it that way, also not a fan of the X).
We have always opened one present each Christmas Eve, when the kids were little it was always Christmas PJs) and open the rest Christmas morning as soon as we get up. Santa comes during the night, and his presents were always set up and not wrapped.
We always watch It's a Wonderful Life when setting up the tree.

Christmas Eve was always a finger foods dinner... quartered sandwiches, chips, veggie trays, meatballs,Devilled Eggs, and things like that. Christmas dinner is always turkey, stuffing, peas, corn, veggie casserole, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, gravy, homemade cranberry sauce and homemade rolls. My Aunt always made a chocolate pie that was served warm so the whipped cream just melted on it, and it doesn't feel like Christmas dinner if I don't make it as well. We always use a set of china that was left to me by my Aunt that she got back in 1951, we only use it for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We set up the dinner on a sideboard in dishes that match the china and everyone goes through like a buffet. Only gravy and rolls on the table.
We eat at around 2pm, as I seem to enjoy the leftovers more and we always heat some up later that night.

This year is my Grandaughter's first Christmas, and we are all so excited!

Christmas Eve's and Christmas Days' have changed for us over the years as we separately enjoyed them with our families. That all changed that wonderous year, when I found myself in the presents of my sweet anchor, she who provides the foundation in my life!

Our first early Christmas Eve found us in the warmth of my family as Christmas Day found us enjoying her's. The first Christmas season that my parents left early for a warmer Winter found my side's gathering changing to early November. That left us to create a New Christmas Eve gathering of our own. The day before was Warm and Sunny! So, we elected to Grill steaks and it became the base for our New Christmas Eve gathering. Each Christmas Eve has provided very different weather and whether very cold and very snowy, warm and sunny or someplace between it has become ours.

This is the first year that Christmas Day will change and we are still not sure what the 'New Christmas Day' gathering will consist of, but it will be firmly rooted in Joy!!!

May each of your Traditions be Joyfull!!!

I had known that 'X' had another meaning buried in History! Thanks Loko for that Historic reference!
