Goofy (YNA), Oscar (Goffin 'too). Foster bird Betty (RLA). RIP Cookie, 1991-2016 ('tiel), Leo (Sengal), Charlotte (scarlet macaw). Grand-birds: Liam (budgie), Donovan (lovebird), RIP Angelo (budgie)
There are members here from all over the world, and I just wanted to check in with anybody who might be in Butte or Yuba counties in California. For those who haven't heard, officials are very worried about the emergency spillway on the Oroville Dam failing, and have evacuated nearly 120,000 residents downstream of the dam. I just wanted to check in with anybody who might be effected and hopefully everybody is evacuated to safe and bird friendly place!

(Mods...I misspelled Yuba county in the tile. If that could be changed I'd appreciate it).

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
A horrible situation, thanks for caring, Beatrice! Apparently the primary dam structure is safe.

Another reminder to carefully consider evacuation protocols including your pets!

Threats in my area:

1- Earthquakes
2- Tsunami (fairly low threat)
3- Wildfires (highest likely issue)
4- Flooding (1/2 mile from a dry river bed that connects to ocean)
5- Decommissioned nuclear power plant 15 miles away (waste is still stored)
6- Small nearby airport (used by private aircraft, 2 have crashed off-airport in the last 6 years)

I'm a teacher at Wheatland Union High School. School is closed tomorrow. Wheatland is under voluntary evacuation, I think it's still voluntary. Several of my colleagues live in Marysville and Yuba City where it's mandatory evacuation. It's been a bit nerve racking. We're expecting the next storm systems to come in Wednesday night and will last for the next 7 days after that. :( The storms have been dumping quite a bit of rain. I wouldn't normally complain because we're coming out of an 8-10 year drought.
