As some of you are aware I have to at least some extent complex emotional disabilities. To make this short I'll simply state those problems have advanced to a point where I quiet literally have to re-learn how to live life in a class based setting or how it's commonly referred to as, group therapy. (No you don't sit in a circle and explain your story. no I'm actually not being sarcastic for once, I have been pushed into this by my parents and therapist.) Anyways, point being it's gotten pretty bad and we've been looking into service dogs. That's where the problem presents itself. We've found a seemingly reliable trainer and a possible dog too. Easy peasy (kinda). Now, the requirements for a service dog to be considered as such, is that they are with the handler at all times and can perform tasks. I've already got a list of tasks to train the pup but in the long run it will need to have complete access to my entire life. This includes Lincoln. I'm very much against mammal/avian prey/predator interactions but in this case I kind of NEED them to be able to safely interact. Lincoln is calm around my current dogs and if they get to close (while I'm holding him) he will nip at their nose, so I'm not worried about him telling the dog off when he's uncomfortable. I'm more worried about said dog staying calm around Lincoln and really preferably ignoring him entirely. Any tips on how to train that into a dog? I don't have a lot of experience in interspecies relations.

if it helps the dog we are currently looking at is a labradoodle. she has been described as calm and curious but not adventurous, just observant. I haven't had the chance to meet her yet but we are working on that.

tl;dr: I need Lincoln and a dog to get along, tips pls

Just off the top of my head, I think a well trained "leave it" command is a must. Otherwise, just general desensitization around Lincoln will hopefully get your service dog to ignore him for the most part.
