Anybody live near the eclipse centerline in Oregon or thereabouts?

Along with some friends, I have reservations in Burns, Oregon for August 21st for the total solar eclipse. Burns isn't even in the path of totality, it's just the closest place I could get a reservation. So I've been looking for owner rentals, etc. in John Day, Mitchell, other eastern Oregon cities on the centerline. I thought, maybe someone here has friends or contacts or knows of any kind of space available? I figure it's a long shot, but you gotta take all your shots.

It truly amazed me that several years ago, when that line was determined, the reservations along that line, especially in the drier areas (no clouds) filled quickly!

Planning on enjoying it from afar along the coast of Lake Michigan! Depending on the weather, may even venture off-shore!

To those who got in early, enjoy! For the rest of us, mark your calendars, and be outside and enjoy this event!

We'll be getting 99.96% obscuration according to the NASA eclipse route where we are. We're on the very southeastern fringes of what is arguably still considered the Portland metro area and there is no event on earth that could draw me out into the mobs of people who will be showing up for the eclipse in the more southern regions of the state! Looks like Burns will be getting 98.58% obscuration. For what it's worth, you might see if any hotels in Oregon City/Clackamas/Happy Valley/Milwaukie have openings. A teeny tiny bit closer up here!

Unfortunately, this eclipse seems to be on a path right through some of the less populace parts of the state, with the exception of Salem. I don't think you'd be able to get a hotel there, but it may be worth it to check out festivities happening in Salem even though it is quite the drive. It's going to be the largest city in OR in the direct path of the eclipse.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
If I had the time and inclination, would rent an RV/Motorhome and drive to a locale somewhat off the beaten path. Avoid the mayhem and congestion of the actual event, but enjoy the camaraderie of fellow watchers the day before/after.
