So as it reaches closer to me just asking about the rescue Meyer's (Inty) whom I'm interested in all of my nerves and concerns are flaring up once again. I'm exceedingly worried about not being able to care for him both emotionally and financially.

I don't exactly know what I'm asking but I'm just freaking out a little over what to do in regards to him/any parrot

Yep, good old panic attacks! Horrible feeling!

not even a panic attack so much, just a lot of tension and anxiousness, all because of the spate of bad luck I had with my previous birds earlier in the year

Good gracious you have grown so much since then. :) It was just that bad luck. As 'boats says if you need more time then take it, there is no pushing you to do this. It is your choice when and if you feel able with lots of online hugs and support as required.

I understand where you are coming from.

I hope this will help:

In this Modern World, we do not provide an understanding of what Fear is and where is is rooted in our self.

Fear is generated deep within the foundation of our Brain. It is structurally part of the Flight or Fight response. That response is one of the hardwired basic responses.

Fear is a 'feeling' that is generated in advance of the selection of whether to more away from or to act upon the what we are confronted with.

Once one understands what 'fear' is and instead of freezing, do something fear has no foundation and that 'feeling' stops. The term 'nerves' or 'nervous' is what we feel, but it is in fact fear.

It comes to having taken the time to understand, to use the knowledge needed to make that choice!

So, Fear or to use your word Nerves is simply the expression of yourself not making the choice that sits in front of you.

In this Modern World, rarely do we have to make a life or death choice and as a result, we lose the ability to act upon the information we have and quickly choose. We freeze and that only enhances the fear (Nerves) response. The longer we freeze the worst it gets! This ends up being a self induced cycle that only supports freezing for longer and longer time periods. At some point, we physically and mentally shutdown!

Point being, one can continue to circle the choice or we can make it. It may seem easy to say, but harder to in fact do it!

You have come a long way from where you had been. The reality is that regardless of our want; Bad Things Happen to Those That We Love! We do the best we can to avoid that happening, but we must understand that there are things that we have no control over!

Take a deep breath, clear your head of the fear and simply choose! If your fear is too high, than choose to step-back and wait a bit longer!

Whatever you do, Do Not Get Locked Into A Circle!

Hope this helps!

thanks everyone!

I do keep picturing myself with little Inty. He looks like such a nice pet and like I've said before don't understand why he get surrendered. I'm going to give the rescue a call in the morning to have a chat about him and figure some bits out. Unfortunately October will be the earliest I can put in an application for him as I'm a little broke until then as I'm heading up to a video game convention in september for a few days. Fingers crossed all goes well.

Thanks plum! Funnily enough the reps I met from the rescue at Thinkparrots thought I would suit a CAG much like you did haha! If only I had the mentality to keep a CAG entertained.

'Feel the fear and do it anyway' is a mantra I have lived by all my life. That's not to say it should be reckless. You need to know that financially you can make that step even if it means changing your own needs to suit the new situation, if it's really important to you.

Life will toss all sorts of choices at you. They are not always tough but whichever choices we make we can only use those experiences and calculations that are available at any given time.

You cannot ensure a risk free future, and you can't ensure nothing bad will ever happen. That's all part of the great experience of life. You can take calculated risks but inevitably the future has a habit of throwing a googly.

Never make a choice and you will miss out on so many joys. As long as you can afford to feed and treat a parrot well make the decision. To just worry about it is no good for your state of mind.

I hope that you find it helpful!

It is based on a more detailed version that I had provided one of the members about eight months ago that was working to understand depression and its link to fears.

Another way of looking at fear is that it saps energy and weakens our ability to make a choice. Hence, we find ourselves even less able to make a choice. As we become weaker, our choices become blurred and confusion is added to the mix of feelings. The circle closes ever faster and as some point we shut-down.

So, as stated: Take a Deep Breath and make a Choice! The result is fear has nothing to feed on!

FYI: Take great care that the individual does not create a new circle of always choosing to flee! Thus avoiding making the hard choice of 'fighting' or better stated eliminating what needs to addressed. Whether that be 'Seeing a Doctor', Facing Life Based Realities, etc... That is just another form of fear and avoiding making a real choice.

It is a very interesting topic and the more you open your mind to examine the what and why you do things, the more we can connect it to basic hardwired structures. In the vast majority of cases, it all comes down to making a choice of one type of another.

Enjoy!

haha I'm at work most of the time I come on. I''m a terrible worker ;) but saying that my work is normally done when I leave

I love trying to help be it in a blunt slap round the face way but hey I'm not here for these pesky humans, I'm here for the birds! You ever hear of the man in India with the massive parrot sanctuary? If possible I would be the english equivalent. Hell if I was working more part-time I would be volunteering at the nearby bird zoo/sanctuary place near me but I just wouldn't be able to especially when keeping one as a pet. Hopefully Inty should be with me in a few months provided all goes well

I've been following your journey since I joined here in May, because I feel like we have common fears and anxieties. I'm so glad you're looking at birds again. I know you will definitely provide a great home for any bird! :)

Sometimes I have to check myself that I'm not being too impatient. I got a message last night that my breeder will have conure babies coming in a few weeks. But they won't be male yellow sides, which is what I prefer. I thought about it overnight and told her today I will stay on the waiting list as long as it takes, because I've always wanted a male YS. I figured I'd always be second guessing myself if I chose a female or a plain gcc. Anyway, good luck. I'm sure it will all work out for you in the end.

What a fantastic explanation! As usual, the depth and breadth of your knowledge and understanding astounds me. Thanks.

I think your apprehension is a sign that you are ready
and just shows that you have the birds best interest in your heart and mind.

if you were just blindly rushing into this, after your loss, it might be more cause for concern.
