So Tuesday night it finally came to a head at my place. I've been fighting a lovely roach infestation recently which I thought I had bested, but Tuesday I go into my kitchen and see 5 of the buggers crawling around! No more I decreed and called the fumigator

fast forward to today and boy I'm glad I don't have a parrot right now, Both sprays and gel have been deployed in a full scale assault against the multi-legged menace! With plans to destroy the hive using their penchant of cannibalism to launch my attack. Through even just one eating a bit of the gel they will return to the hive believed to be residing in a neighbors apartment in extreme numbers and die which then the others will eat the infected and spread the poison until none remain! Of course as such I must remain out of the home until tonight when it will be safe for humans to be in. There will be a second strike launched in 3 weeks in an effort to make sure no individual remains. The fallout of such a devastating chemical attack believed to be banned by the geneva convention requires all activities based in or around the effected area to be evacuated due to the lethality of such an attack which could harm humans let alone respiratory sensitive creatures such as psittacines

Haven't you even tried peaceful negotiations with the roaches? :D

I'm laughing! I am a youth librarian and we have a collection of Hissing Cockroaches on loan right now. I've managed to kill two of them...and I didn't mean to! If only I could share my roach husbandry skills with you.

Make sure you air it out good - those chemicals! Hopefullly your unwelcome guests will leave.

peaceful negotiations were offered to the roach kingdom but they responded with an aerial strike previously thought by local intelligence not to be possible by the species, resulting in 1 smashed bowl and a loss loss of cereal and milk resources. This resulted in a draw on territory with each breach being met with hostile use of shoe and spatula based weaponry with infrequent gas attacks using "raid" branded weaponry. As these warnings have clearly been ignored and aggressive assaults on home territory have increased there has been no choice but to launch a full scale assault

oh I've killed plenty of them myself but of course they keep coming, and I noticed babies with the large adults which made me realize how bad it was and that I wasn't equipped to get rid of them. I know one of the neighbors on the ground floor has a lizard of some sort so I suspect the bugs were intended to be food for the lizard but enough to start a colony managed to escape

Thankfully I've got good airflow owing to 2 good windows and a skylight so clearing the fumes out should be fine. A bit of febreeze may have to be bought to cover any smells before I go home tonight

Oh EEEK! I've managed to never see a cockroach in person. I think I'd be absolutely paralyzed if I found a bunch live in my home. Good for you in getting rid of them. Is the neighbour also helping? Or hindering? Or perhaps just letting you take it on alone?

neighbour knows nothing of it. Without concrete evidence in a building of 12 apartments it's hard to pin it down, though I have my suspicions.

They're no worse to see than any other insect really I just have an extreme fear of bugs after a traumatic incident as a child.

Don't worry Scott already have my gas mask prepared!

status update, I survived the night so clearly I am not a roach! Not seen any so that's a good sign. And thankfully my Landlord has agreed that I'm not the cause of the infestation and covered the cost for me!

Have seen the globs of gel left around for the roaches to eat so hopefully they munch away and destroy the nest

Thats nice he agreed to cover the cost.....but it is his building, here he'd be fined and have to do all the details.

Short of treating the entire building (all apartments, hallways, accesses and support areas) treating just your apartment is nothing more than a setback for the foe. Within a few months they will be reinforcing their numbers and once again on the attack. Sadly, you could be looking at repeating this adventure every six months just to keep them out of your apartment.

With great luck, you may get a year out of the treatment. Point being, until you move to an apartment complex that is serious about not having this kind of problem, you will be using those special services often enough to know the workers by first names.

that's what I thought boats, but the application of the gel substance is designed to actually kill the nest, acting as a slow poison. As cockroaches are cannibalistic in nature they will eat the infected cockroach and spread the disease. Fingers crossed should be okay. Either way the landlord is contacting the people that own the building (landlord only owns my apartment) and the company managing the building should sort it out

Clark, there's actually strange rules regarding pests over here. Essentially over here it's normally down to the tenant to remove any pests but when the suspicion by all parties agrees to it being someone else or being from before moving in then the Landlord is responsible, all depends on the agreement you sign as well
