I generally order things for Kiwi online and occasionally pick up the odd "need it ASAP" item at petco, but I almost never get over to the area of our local bird store. Hubby has to get a wisdom tooth pulled at a dentist who works on weekends who's office is just a mile up the road, so while he's busy with the dentist I'm going to drive over to say hello to the parrots and pick up some goodies for Kiwi:) It's unfortunately too nasty of weather today (enough rain to warrant a flood warning!) for Kiwi to come, but he's been there before and seemed intrigued to see others of his own kind. The store is always very clean, the workers caring and knowledgeable, they have babies as well as older rehomes. It's a nice bird store so I', excited:D

Enjoy! A well run Parrot Store is a joy to visit!.

Hmmm, lots of rain you say, That explains our forecast for this coming week: Rain and more Rain!

Julio is sitting on his perch in our South Window and enjoying the Sunshine. I think I will let him enjoy the moment. With that weather report, he is going to need today's Sun!

Hey, did you catch the Weather report for England! High Winds and Heavy Rain! Winds up to 80 mph!

It is a nice store. Theres a blue front and several other amazons on their website, so I shall tell Kiwi's cousins hello for him:D Oh ya, and theres a cape parrot too right now. I'm really eager to see one in real life since they are pretty rare. He's a little ways down the page.
http://www.birdhutinc.com/our-birds

Flood warnings AND a wind advisory. Some places more towards the coast are expecting up to 8" and 50mph gusts today:eek: Definitely NOT a day for Kiwi to be out and about with us. For as much rain as we get up here, drivers are still nutty when it's more than a light sprinkle and I suspect the 205 will more chaotic than normal.

Tell Julio to enjoy his sunshine because if you get some of what we're getting, he's not going to be going back outside for a while!

Just got back and what a fun trip! They had lots of birds- a very friendly GW macaw who apparently liked to snag buttons off unsuspecting customers:p A beautiful female DYH, that given any more time with her, might've convinced me to bring her home. I saw 2 species I've seen on the forums but never in real life- a timneh and a ringneck parrot. The TAG was SO much smaller than I imagined them being. I knew they were smaller than the CAGs but this little guy was like a big conure. Very tiny. I also assumed ring neck parrots were only marginally larger than IRNs, but the one they had was huge compared to an IRN. He was a big boy. And I did get to see their cape parrot. What an interesting looking bird! His neck feathers were almost an iridescent silver and his beak was huge compared to the size of his head.

Kiwi made out like a bandit. 2 new perches (including a very cool plastic one), a bunch of little foot toys, 2 Manu blocks and 3 small bags of various foods for him to sample. He's not spoiled or anything though:p

Shopping for your parrot is as fun/more fun than shopping for yourself!

I've seen a lot of variation in the timnehs' size, but have definitely seen some tiny ones! I've also seen some that are just marginally smaller than the congos.

A weekend for pet stores is right! I also went to my local pet store today. Played with and trained their golden conure, Mango, petted some cute dogs, and they also have a female eclectus and a yellow naped amazon, along with some budgies. They had a senegal boarding there and a little blue and white pied budgie. I picked up a bag of pellets and decided to try some Goldenfeast products, we'll see how the birds like it. Kermit also lost his first wing feather today! So exciting!

That place has beautiful birds and there prices look reasonable. Good thing they are at the far side of Oregon from me.

I go up to Southern Oregon at least once a year to vacation and visit relatives.
If it was closer I would be bringing back a hitchhiker or 3 :)

If you're ever up north a bit, it's worth stopping by just to say "hi" to the birds. Definitely has the old Portland vibe to the store, it's an old house converted into a business. Clean and sanitary but not uncomfortably sterile like a big chain pet store. Has home-like vibes, which I'm sure is nice for the birds while they're there.

I almost brought home my own hitchhiker yesterday. Beautiful 10 y/o DYH named Gremie Lou. I love DYH's but I guess our condo HOA having a "one pet" policy keeps me in check on that front:(

Gremie Lou is truly a looker! Julio gave her two Oooo's with pinning eyes!

I can see why you enjoy visiting there. Wonderful store and well stocked - pictures are great also!

She was a beauty. And a beautiful voice too. Knew how to make those lovely, melodic amazon noises that Kiwi never has. Reminded me so much of my moms DYH. Climbed right over to the front of the bars to check me out too. Someone will be very lucky to take that bird home!

I LOVE DYH, but they usually don't like me. I've been bitten, really bitten, by DHYA more then any other species of parrot! I love me a nice parrot shop.

Interesting. I've never had a bad experience with a DYH. I generally get along well with amazons. I'm good at imitating their noises so they usually get pretty intrigued by that:) A bit intimidated of Big Macs, but they usually like me too. Cockatoos are the ones I keep a safe distance from!

Salty kind of looks like a small DYH is that what drew you to his species?

well Sailboats I can follow up on the report as where I live was in the middle of that weather warning

several plastic bags caught in trees, multiple accounts of ruined hairstyles, 1 wheelie bin knocked over by myself and friends after ingesting too much alcohol

we require aid in the form of chocolate biscuits and warm drinks

...OH and a pizza, the country may collapse without this aid

:D:D:D!

Do not mean to be 'Hard Hearted,' but you're going to have to stand in line to get any aid from this side of the pond. At present, we have four States plus, a really big one on the West Coast, and two Island Territories that are ahead of you. But I hear that once you get past the News Media's versions, the lines are moving along fairly quickly! That said, the Islands are moving slower, due to their heavy losses.

I had heard that there is some hope that Cuba may have seen an influx of Island Amazons along the Southern side of that Island Nation. As with everything the sightings are unconfirmed at this time.

Hope you don't mind cold pizza, the heated delivery bags are not warranted for that length of delivery time! :D

So, what do you like on your pizza?

Actually that was just a plus on his species. No, I was interested in Yellow Shoulder Amazons because of their milder personalities, smaller size and sweet dispositions. Salty's lived up to all the hype and more. But yeah he does look like a confused DYH.

considering it's an emergency a simple cheese will be enough! Yeah been a rough year for the states can't imagine how bad it is in the effected areas.

Please let's have a confirmation the Zons moved over there, I think a win is much needed after the devastation

Salty is a lovely parrot Wrench, don't just mark that up to his species! You've worked hard to make him the well mannered boy he is. I'm not exactly confident with interacting with the larger birds but Salty is a bird I wouldn't be scared with handling
