I love birds, and besides the parrots I have a lot of outside birds. I've decided I need to sell my breeding trio of Golden Nargansett turkeys. I wanted them to be free range but they chase my dogs, chase the neighbor's dog and like to hang out at his house which is a ways away. They have been penned this summer and just pace all the time. So I listed them for a high price because they are beautiful and not just eating birds.
I have a lady who really wants them - vegan, which makes me happy! But while talking I don't think she knows much about turkeys, poultry, fowl, birds in general. Pictures of her coop makes me think they may not be safe. But then to be fair mine have good coops and aren't always safe when they are out. There are always predators around.
So do I sell them and just stop worrying about them or try to inform her without hurting her feelings or just not sell them. My husband tells me to quit getting upset over turkeys. But they are my responsibility and I take it seriously.
Any advice or thoughts?

Speaking as a long time vegan, most of us really care about animals and want to do what's best for them (and aren't offended by education). I'm sure if you emphasize how glad you are to have found someone who won't hurt the turkeys because they mean a lot to you as pets etc... she won't be close minded if you also had a few suggestions for her about what kind of pen they do best in.I'm not sure whats wrong with her enclosure for them, but for example if they could escape by getting over the fence, pose it in a friendly way along the lines of "oh, these guys are kind of mischievous and you'll probably need a bit higher fence to keep them in". Stuff like that:)

On a more personal note, I am thrilled to hear you are taking your turkeys well being to heart since you have to rehome them. It makes me happy to know some beautiful turkeys will be finding a caring new home this year:) instead of what most turkeys are facing this time of year:( Beautiful turkey BTW! Looks similar to the wild turkey my family on the east coast gets on their property in large...flocks(?) every year.

Fully agree with Kiwi's Mom! She has provided this with such grace that anything I could add would only distract from her wording!

The turkeys are stunning! Absolutely beautiful. I understand and respect your concern for their well being, it is the sign of a noble person.

Just a few thoughts about being a novice -- all of us were novices with birds at one time. We grew in knowledge and experience and I would venture to say that most of us had mentors whether face to face or on line. I know I have had both.

So, if this caring woman is willing to take the turkeys, love them and respect them, I would try to work with her. Maybe visit with her and have a cup of coffee and just talk turkey. After spending some time with her you can really get the feel about whether or not you would feel comfortable with her as their new care giver.

I raised a few litters of Yorkie pups from my two AKC champion girls. If a prospective puppy mommy/daddy "survived" my grueling interview, I felt comfortable that the pups would have a good home.

Good luck and please keep us posted on the beauties....

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Thank you for caring for these turkeys and advocating for their continued safety! Hopefully the new owner will take their commitments seriously and ensure they thrive.

I have a few suggestions, but I don't think they'd pass the moderators approval of keeping the forum restricted to family friendly content:16::eek::D

I have many a suggestion that would make a hardened sailor blush :p It's what I use to describe the workers in my old job

Really for me I would be 50/50 some vegans out there are very good people who just don't eat meat, but of course there are "those" types who believe all animals should eat a vegan diet and are generally stuck-up and rammed so far up their own rectum they're at risk of becoming a human mobius-strip
