Green cheek conure - Sydney (Syd) Hatched 2/2017
I have mentioned in other posts my very large beautiful dog, who is with me all the time, beautifully trained and who I have enjoyed for just over 9 years. He was a rescue who was all skin and bone when I got him and so wild people I knew well simply crossed to the other side of the street. Now I can trust him anywhere, a true gentleman and a real favourite with everyone.

He was such hard work and even now we train every day but a month ago out of the blue I found a large hard lump near his groin. Tests proved it was inoperable and in this month it has more than doubled in size causing him to move carefully and hold his one leg out of line.

Last night's vet visit confirmed that at this rate he has weeks not months and I need to brace myself for a sad Christmas, but I am determined that he will not suffer. At present he is still eager to go out for his walk although I limit the distance and is eating well. He can't still play with his dog friends but still loves to greet them and their response to him shows that they also realise something is not quite right with him. It has all been so sudden and quick, he is getting just a little worse each day, but his loyalty is still there.

He will tell me when the time has come. Sad times!

Yes I have thought about it, but we would appear to be too far along with a very aggressive growth. I would be reluctant to make him undergo all the trauma. At present he is happy most of the time although I am aware of changes even today.

Thank you for your thoughts.

As you well know; enjoy the moments, as well as provide the joyful moments! Being loved is so very important. Our rescues know the importance of love! It's why they open so beautifully when they bask in our love and return it so willing! Enjoy the moments!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Very sorry you are both going through a difficult and sad time. Seems you have a good sense of quality of life vs painful lingering. Savor the time together knowing the rescue gave you both an indelible gift.

I'm so sorry, It's so hard to see our loved ones get sick. I lost my beautiful lab this year. I'm tearing up just thinking about what to say. Cherish every moment and memory lots of pictures and visits from friends. They really seem to appreciate getting to say goodbye to all their pals four legged and two legs alike. I'm so sorry.

Last night the vet put my beautiful boy to sleep. As he succumbed I felt his release but it was a tough decision. The gap in the house is huge today but Syd is doing his best to cheer me up. He enjoyed his walks on his last day and didn't look too bad but in between all was obviously not good. Now I am confident it was the right time and I can visualise him running free with the rest of my pack.

Ringing in my ears is the saying ' better a week early than a day late'. RIP fella!

I am so very sorry for your loss:( They let us know when it's time, I believe, and I completely agree about the week early being better than a day late. I'm so glad he found you, and you were able to share his life.
Run free, Sweet Boy.
